Hi,
I've been on the kitten forum for several months since acquiring a pregnant cat, called Biscuit. Three of her kittens have gone to new homes and I've kept one called Leo who is now just over 4 months old. He and his mum are indoor only cats, with no other animals in the house. Both are neutered over 6 weeks ago.

I thought it is better that I post a new thread here, as concerned about Leo. 10 days ago Leo vomited for the first time and had a few soft stools around the same time, one with a little fresh blood. After this he has changed his behaviour to food, often refusing to eat his wet food, not interested in cat milk and less interested in biscuits. So to me it doesn't just seem like fussiness with one type of food and before he has always been really enthusiastic about food. He is bright, alert and playful, maybe a little less energetic. Since this started he sometimes has a reasonable meal and I think he is getting better, but then later or the next day will refuse. It was hot weather for us in the UK last week, but has cooled the last few days.
I took him to vet three days after vomiting, when clear appetite not going back to normal. She said he wasn't dehydrated, no evidence he had eaten a foreign object. She gave him anti nausea injection, long acting antibiotic (just in case because of the stool and a slight temperature - which may have been due to the vet trip) and some hills digestive care food. This was a week ago.

As I mention above his appetite has come and gone since then. I've offered him his food, the special digestive food, the mother and baby at food pate he ate when younger. His stool is gradually improving and has been, smaller but nearly normal the last couple of days. His weight for last week is constant and increasing slightly (so may be eating more biscuits than I realise ). His mum is well.

I'm not sure if I'm over worrying, but just feel he isn't right. The vet is calling later today but I appreciate any thoughts or experiences of people here. Wondering if he has teething pain and would this cause these symptoms? Then I go to worrying it is the first sign of something serious like FIP.

Its so hard to know sometimes, i wish they could tell us in words how they feel  and i worry about mine too.

I would just keep up with the vet, follow her recommendations, and keep her aware of how the kitten is. Watch to make sure he is eating, going to the litter box, and acting normal. It may take 2 or 3 days for the meds to make a difference. If he still seems off, after giving the meds time to work, or develops new symptoms then i would take him back in. Try not to think the worst, or worry too much. Many cats and kittens have bugs, and things, just not well for a few days, and they get over it and all is well. Keep up with your vet, and watch him.
Do keep us updated on how he is doing! we will worry with you. :crossfingers:

Thank you for your replies and support. Just spoke to vet and she has said to keep weighing him as that is the best way to monitor him, as a little unclear how much biscuits he eats when I'm out. Will call her next week with update and take him in for blood tests and examination if still concerned. She said to try and look at gums to see if sore, she thought OK last week and does not explain stomach upset. She said to go ahead with worm/flea etc medication (45mg Stronghold/revolution as over 2.6kg), which was due next week (has had regular treatment of panacur when very young and stronghold more recently) and stop mum licking it off. So I've just done that.

He has eaten quite a few biscuits this morning and drank water, but little interest in wet food

silkenpaw silkenpaw I think he is a good weight. I have just added his recent weight to a graph of his weight since birth, as I hadn't weighed him for a couple of weeks until showed signs of illness so not sure if he has lost weight at any point, but clearly plateaued , but now gradually increasing again.

I'll update this to let you know how he does.

Just wanted to say that Leo is much better, eating well, gradually his interest in wet food is increasing, but not the same kitten food he ate before. He eats a bit of his mum's wet food and his main food is purina kitten biscuits. Although he was still playful when ill, his super zoomie self is now back.

Here is a recent weight chart, he was first sick on day 120 and had eaten well up till then and saw vet on day 123. So I think he lost some weight or at leat plateaued.

That’s a great weight chart. What app did you make it in? Glad to see he’s back to being his kitten self and gaining weight. He has a sweet face and beautiful eyes. I love orange kitties!
