My kitten has been pooping everyday since I first got her :whitecat:.. Her main diet is Royal canin dry food ( I plan on switching her to fromm after the shelter tells me it's okay to..) I can't seem to get her to eat wet food. She weirdly prefers dry food.. No idea why....anyways..... If your cat isn't pooping I'd be worried about her not getting enough nutrition through her food. Over all I would ask a vet and probably switch foods. :lovecat:

Manny is on wet and dry and he goes every night after he gets his wet food. Sometimes he goes twice a day. He just let a bomb go a few seconds ago! Just ate his wet food too! pewwwwy!

My cats are on dry food and once or twice a week on wet food. They go once a day for sure sometimes even twice. But I guess it is like in humans we don't all have the same frequency.

Kittyxoxo one of my cats doesn't eat wet food ever. She hates it. How strange is that, but all my others love it when provided. I just prefer dry food because it can stay out of the fridge and it is easier.

cat1967 I'm actually glad that she prefers dry food because It's better for her teeth.

Although wet food tends to have more protein  ... but she is having crazy growth spurts so I'm sure she's doing fine. :lovecat4:

It's funny how Eris our kitten :whitecat: doesn't like wet food, but as for our senior chihuahua Cookie, she goes crazy over the smell of it...... :blackcat2: even if she gets none lol

I hate to be a downer, but dry food doesn't actually clean teeth. This is a myth. In my opinion dry food is actually quite unhealthy for cats as it has very low moisture and is packed with carbs (it will also make your cat's poop stinkier and bulkier because it is loaded with carbs that cats can't properly digest in large quantities).

I wish I could brush their teeth but none of them lets me.

I also have a cat called Cookie. He is short and had asthma but he has been ok for several months. He loves a little canned food in mousse form with water. He comes downstairs every day around noon waiting for it.

I've never in my life had a cat that pooped twice a day. On average once a day but for some reason I seem to connect with cats that run constipated.

Timmer was pretty normal and went every day.

My little Lupita, who I have had for ten years now, only goes every other day, maybe every three days. This is her and she's always been like this. She doesn't strain either. I did start her on a hairball formula food and I sprinkle psyllium husk over it and for awhile she started going every day and now she's back to about every other day. But she is not a big eater but she loves dry food and turns her nose up at canned.. She loves water and drinks plenty of water, pees OK. She's going on 14 years old now and seems fine. I think I'd prefer if she ate canned but I've gotten so tired of throwing it all out because she won't eat it that I decided just go with what she eats. For now.

It doesn't matter how often they poop as long as they keep their schedule. Any prolonged change could indicate something but as long as her poop is normal I guess everything is ok.

How can we have a poop thread with no one yet using the poop smiley?!
:) :poop:

I think if your cat is in normal health (no known big issues), some of their poo schedule might depend on the types of foods/brands/fiber/fillers you feed them. I rotate a handful of brands not just weekly but sometimes daily, and I've found that with certain brands, my cat will move from pooping once a day to going about once every 30-36 hours.

I don’t think I pay as much attention to my own poop schedules as much as my cats’.

Not only that A Azazel , but I pay attention to their overall health much more than my own!

I feed raw, and mine go every other day. And as raw feeders know, it’s smallish and pretty much odorless. The only slight oddity is that one of the three has much larger poop than the other two. She’s not that much bigger but has always had hefty-sized poop no matter what I feed her. (And she also pees only once a day and it’s really a large clump.)

Yoda seemed perfectly happy going once every 3 to 4 days, and I had no idea it wasn’t normal. Then I went on vacation and came back to a cat with severe constipation. The first incident 2 years ago cost me $1,200. This latest problem has cost over $2,000 (and counting). This is really not something to take lightly. Yoda seemed fine the moment it became an emergency problem. I’m not trying to scare you. I’m just trying to save you from a massive vet bill down the line.

Mine has been getting two servings of wet food per day for the past couple weeks, and free-feeding kibble the rest of the time. Since I introduced the wet food she literally seems to poop every 24 hours, like clockwork, and the poops look very healthy.

Back when she was eating only dry it would be every 24-30 hours, and her poops were smaller, dark and looked hard. This is despite drinking a nice amount of water consistently.

roughly once to twice a day for the adults, but I feel like the kittens go more than the adults. I think it's mostly pee though, and I guess their bladders are tinier...so they go more frequently. (Best guess)

Thanks everyone for all your responses! Since I first began the thread, things have normalized a bit -- more an every other day or so schedule. Phew! Really interesting to read everyone's responses and happy that things seem to have normalized for Ox! Now if we could only kick his ear infection!
