I bought some baby oatmeal for my cats itchy skin, but there is no way I can get him to sit in a bathtub for 10 minutes! Can I liquefy it and spray it on him and brush it in? Would that be safe? I dont want to buy a spray cause they always have chemicals
Hes miserable and I need help!
Thank you in advance

First step is a vet appointment to determine why he has itchy skin. Treating the symptom is always good but stopping the problem is even better.

Two of the common things that can help with itchy skin is either flea medicine and/or increasing fish oil in your cats diet. Check with your vet for the best flea medicine in your area and only use that. Don't use Hartz or other store brand type products. Frontline and Advantage are the two most common but it depends on your area which is the best choice. For fish oil, you can either evaluate your current food and change OR add fish oil supplements OR feed a sardine every two-three days. Yes, sardine packed in water and with no added salt or seasoning. I can find them at Trader Joe's or health foodstoees usually.

Please let us know how it goes with the vet. It could be something other than the most common causes.

:yeah: Kieka has really good advice.

I have not thought about this product in a year or two, but i have posted about it 3 times today?

My cat didnt have itches, but she had some bad cat acne after months in a cone. My vet recommended this, it worked like a charm. Several people on Chewy also say it does great for itches. I think they have a spray too.

Veterinary Formula Clinical Care Antiseptic & Antifungal Shampoo

It does say 10 min on the cat before rinsing. I dont know as i ever made it quite 10 min. I guess as close as you can?
Best of luck to your little girl! Do keep us updated on her. And i would also recommend the vet visit to see if they can tell why she is so itchy.

I already know the cause. Its hyperthyroid. I've talked to my vet and he gets omegas and everything but he needs instant relief. I need to know if I can put oatmeal on him and if anyone has done this before. Can I mix it with water and spray it on and leave it? And then brush it out? I cant find crap on the internet and I'm desperate right now

Just a regular bath with the oatmeal should be fine or spraying with water. If your cat responds to catnip you can also provide catnip and valerian root regularly. It won't help with the itch but it should distract your cat from it.

Yeah I cant do baths. He freaks over everything. I'm starting omegas and he foams at the mouth and freaks out. It's all drama. I cant do anything to him. He always thinks I'm about to do something if I spend too much time with him. It makes me sad. That's why I thought if I just spray it on, leave it for a bit, and brush it out with a little water, it wouldn't be much different than a bath

Be sure to mix the omegas into food. My vet told me to never give it directly by dropper into their mouths because they could aspirate the oil into their lungs.
My cats hated the omegas as well as salmon oil I tried....mixing into food was pointless, they would sniff and walk away.

What about unusual things that he might like; no-nitrate bacon, a little raw egg yolk ( egg white must be cooked), --someone mentioned they used prosciutto, green beans, baby peas, small bits of green olive, mackerel, canned kitten food, cheddar cheese, a bit of butter...
Find out if he likes any of these, then try adding the omegas.

Hes one of those cats that only likes one or two things. He only likes one type of treat. Besides those omegas take up to 12 weeks to work. I need something immediate. I guess I'm just going to rub oatmeal on him. I dont know what else to do. No one on here is really saying if that's ok. I'll put it on and brush it off I guess. I cant bath him so I'll figure out a way to spray it on

Try some of the different things I mentioned - you never know, you might hit the jackpot.

You should be ok with that oatmeal...hang in there!!

Also, try chilled/room temp. chamomile tea - in the commercial tea bags so that you're getting the german variety
