My female cat had a UTI for which she received medication and it went away. A few months later, it came back. Another visit to the vet and an x-ray revealed that she had tiny crystals in her bladder (not stones), which required a different kind of medication. In the meantime, my cat was urinating on her bed, as well as in her litter box. I have washed the bed numerous times, along with her blankets, and have used water and vinegar, to no avail. I was told to get a commercial urine remover, but it's an informational nightmare trying to figure out the right way to go. Some say enzyme removers are best, while others say they do nothing. I'm really in the dark here and would appreciate any help.

Enzyme cleaners are outstanding. A few years back I had a passenger have a major bladder accident in the front seat of my vehicle, soaking the front seat. I poured a bottle of Nature’s Miracle on it and I have never, even on the hottest, most humid days ever smelled urine in my car.

I have never had much success with putting enzyme cleaner in the washer. Too diluted I suppose. I would recommmend soaking the bed/blankets in undiluted enzyme cleaner before washing, or using an odor remover that's meant for laundry like OxiClean or something like that.

If the items won't bleach, soaking them in peroxide can work too.

"The Equalizer" Carpet Stain and Odor Eliminator is the best product of all I have tried. I bought it at my vet's office, and not sure you can find it in any pet store. But, I do know that you can buy it on Amazon.com among other web sites. As the product states, it is 'self-cleaning' in that you do not have to scrub. Just blot up as much urine as possible, spray The Equalizer on the area (no need to saturate), let sit for a few minutes, and blot up as much as you can again.

As far as linens/clothes, if you find the urine while the material is still wet, I have had success just throwing them in the washer immediately and washing the same way I wash all other fabrics. They never come out with any urine smell.

I haven't tried peroxide yet, but I have tried an Oxi-based laundry detergent, as well as a product called Carbona. Neither worked. I ended up getting a bottle of Nature's Miracle and plan to give it a whirl tomorrow. Fingers crossed.
