Poppy develops sores on her face with wet (canned) food containing fish so she gets poultry-only food. I know cats don't need treats, but I'd like to give her the occasional treat, too.

I've long since weaned her off the Temptations, which she loved, but I wasn't impressed with the ingredients. Then we discovered Wellness Kittles. Poppy happily switched to the Kittles, I was happy with the ingredients BUT ... chicken and turkey-flavoured Kittles are harder and harder to find in Toronto. (Amazon.ca wants over $200 for a case of fourteen 2-ounce pouches!)

Can anyone suggest an online supplier that's reasonably priced in Canada or ships to Canada? Failing that, do I take a chance on salmon or tuna flavoured Kittles? How much fish is in those 2 flavours?

I should add, we've tried all the freeze-dried treats—Poppy won't eat them.

I have tuna kittles right here. I bought them the day I brought my cat home thinking all cats love tuna (and I got a coupon for them in the store) before learning she was a chicken fiend. Oh well.

Given that the tuna is the first ingredient, I probably wouldn't risk it with a fish sensitivite cat.

As far as the freeze dried treats, they are NOT all equal. That's what I feed my guys, and one of mine likes any brand, the other not so much. Depending on the brand, he will either yank them out of my hand, barely leaving my fingers, or walk away with a look of disgust . (and I only buy 100% freeze dried chicken breasts, so it's not that one time it's chicken, the next time beef, etc.)

Thanks, Lari, for pointing out tuna is the first ingredient. I won't be risking the Tuna or Salmon Kittles, I guess.

Re the freeze-dried treats, Poppy's turned up her nose at PureBites and Benny Bully's when I've tried those a few times. She also won't eat the Blue Wilderness chicken & turkey treats, which I can easily get here. So far, she only seems to eat the Temptations and Kittles (chicken / turkey flavour).

Is there something higher quality than Temptations that people here would recommend? (She loves those, Temptations are readily available in Toronto, but I don't love the list of ingredients.)

Is there something high-quality, freeze-dried poultry-flavoured we can try? What do people here recommend as poultry-flavoured cat treats easily got in Toronto?

I won't be of much help because I don't know what's available in Canada. Wholelife freeze dried is one that ALL of my cats loved, and at one time I had four cats.

Have you tried contacting Wellness and asking them if there is a merchant n your area that sells what you are looking for? Sometimes you can find what you need that way (but be sure to call the Merchant and make sure they actually have it in stock. I've found sometimes they only have certain varieties, etc.)

Thanks for replying, mrsgreenjeens. Amazon.com doesn't ship the Wholelife to Canada. Wholelife at amazon.ca is $18 + $6 shipping for 1 ounce. I like my cat, and want to give her treats but ...

When I e-mailed Wellness I got this back in reply:
"Thank you for taking the time to write to us about our Wellness® Kittles™ Chicken & Cranberries Recipe crunchy cat treats. Unfortunately, this seems like a supply and demand issue. What I will do is forward your feedback to the appropriate teams here."

I've found a store in Ottawa - a different city entirely - that ships to Toronto so I've ordered 10 packets ($3.39 each package + sales tax + shipping $11.50) of the Wellness Chicken treats. That should hold us until I figure something out.

My cat loves freeze dried duck liver treats. Lots of brands exist; you can order the Pure Bites from Well.ca, I bought Pure Vita at a global pet foods in Toronto. I think Pure Vita also has chicken heart treats, and turkey something?

Hi MargoLane,

Thanks for replying. We've already tried PureBites a few times ... Poppy walked away from the dish I put her treats in. Wouldn't touch freeze-dried anything, altho' I tried a few different brands. She's also refusing Blue Buffalo Wilderness treats.

Are you in Canada? I'm wondering about the Nutrience chicken treats? I've just found I can get them online at the same place I order her canned food. Nutrience grain-free treats look okay, they're cheaper than Kittles, but I don't see a list of ingredients, other than chicken, anywhere. Are they equivalent to Kittles, do you know? Is Nutrience better than Temptations? She loves Temptations but I no longer give her those.

Just as an aside, Poppy's always walked away from anything "duck." And we went thru weeks of trial / error before Poppy "condescended" to eat Weruva Paw Lickin Chicken, provided I rinse off the potato starch and mix it with Fancy Feast Liver & Chicken.

Sounds like you have a picky eater...otherwise known as a cat...! I'm lucky in that way; mine stuffs her face with just about anything I put in front of her.

I am in Canada but I haven't tried Nutrience. Looking at the website, they seem great since they are 100% chicken. I actually prefer that - my cat has IBD, so I eliminate carbs as much as possible, maybe 3-5% of her diet? And since they're cooked chicken instead of freeze dried, there's probably a better chance Poppy would actually eat them! I guess I'd just really watch the expiration dates - they don't seem to have a lot of preservatives, or maybe they just aren't listing them? Another thing I often do is just search this entire site for the brand name. Then I can see if it's been mentioned in any thread, and what people have said about it.

And I don't know...maybe it's not that bad to feed her Kittles, especially if you're feeding good wet food. It is a treat after all, and a very small percent of her total calories. As long as their isn't an underlying health concern/reason to be really strict, I feel a treat is just a treat and she likes them. I eat ice cream sometimes, even though it's not prime nutrition for the human body.

Thanks, again, Margo. I think I'll try the Nutrience (provided the label doesn't show it contains anything nasty.) Nutrience is made in Canada and easier to find than the U.S. - made Kittles Chicken.
