I also did another walk over of our ten acres today and no smells of decomposition or anything.
This is no clue at all.
It's winter in your country, you said, the cold might not help in this matter.

In March, when it was still winter here in Italy, a feral cat was hit and killed by a car. The law asks us to call the environment office and report the roadkill to them, so they can send a person over to recover and dispose of the poor animal.
So I did, I called them five times over two weeks. I insisted because it was very unusual of them not coming.
Eventually, three weeks later, I did what they should have done. I went there, picked up the poor cat and buried him in a public green area.
To make this story short, three weeks after the accident that poor cat had no smell at all, and wasn't even decomposed, despite the fact he was exposed to the sun and the temperatures were raising day to day.

This said, I hope that all texts you are receiving can lead you to the finding of your Sebastian safe and sound!

Thank you for your information, the reason I'm searching for a smell is because we've had two pademelons and a possum die over the last month on our property and the cats were first to find them a couple of days after and we could smell them about 5 days after. The weather is cool here but not snowing or even below zero (during the day it's about 15-17 degrees Celsius) so I expect a smell by now or for Edwin and Albert to be zeroing in on a decomposing body or for Tasmanian devils or quolls to be present in numbers. From this I can gather he isn't dead on the property or in the fields beside us or the ravines or neighbouring properties. The only thing I can conclude is that he wandered or was chased off the property and over the field by something :'(

Sebastian could be trapped in someone else's shed, cellar, garage, shed, barn, or whatever there's around. And he might be so scared he doesn't even meow when you call him.

A friend of mine lost his cat many years ago, shortly before Christmas, and looked everywhere, and knoked all houses in his neighborhood.
He was desperate and was sure his cat had died somewhere.
The fact that he hadn't found a body around, and that no vet had a cat in emergency were clear clues she was still alive.
I asked him to check all the houses around again, and eventually he found his cat in a neighbor's cellar, but she wasn't meowing even when he was there, she was too scared. He found her ten days after he had lost her, two days before Christmas.
I think it was the best gift he could wish!

I wish I could be so lucky :'( today I went through the forest for about 2km calling and shaking his biscuit bag. Nothing. I have mapped the surrounding houses. Most have open sheds to air the wood for winter. No one has basements or cellars and I have checked everyone's closed sheds or chicken pens. The day he disappeared, the closest house to us which was vacant before had people in it and a dog on the deck. I've spoken to these people several times and they didn't see anything. They're just fixing the house up at the moment and I checked inside and out without them there but no sign, I also took Edwin but he didn't find anything either. I'm so lost.

Although the situation is very serious, it is not yet dire. I've seen cats come home MONTHS AND MONTHS later. Keep hoping and doing what you can. He may yet come home, more than happy to be there again!

I feel pretty empty. I've found nothing. No clue or sighting or anything! Edwin howls if we say Sebastian's name. Today he saw Albert walking from a distance and shot off like a rocket meowing because he thought it was Sebastian only to stop dead in his tracks once he noticed it wasn't him. I've walked through many kilometres of forest, no smells/no sightings/ no meowing. We've travelled back constantly to where the lady said she may have seen him but nothing.

Have left tuna/brine trails from the bush to our house today. Found 2 smells but it was a dead rabbit and a pademelon. Saw 2 feral cats this week, 1 a kitten, 1 a tabby female.

I have purchased two trail cameras which I will place where I saw the tabby female and another in a section of forest where Edwin became erratic after finding a smell and began calling. I won't trap yet but I will see who is coming and going over a week long period. I have a suspicion Sebastian may be frolicking with a female and/or kittens. He was a late desexed cat born from a feral mum and despite his lack of 'parts' he still chases girls and adopts kittens. Realistically, he could be deceased (somehow??) anywhere. I found a rabbit he must have killed a couple of weeks ago which led down to the house with the dog, if he got scared there, he may have picked up the scent of other cats and went to check it out. I've searched all of the forest from the creek line but perhaps he is intentionally ignoring me. Food and cameras will show me who's coming and going on the neutral territory.

I hope he turns up. We had a female cat back in the day, who sneaked out of a window that was inadvertently left open. She was at least 11 or 12 years old and was missing for months. She survived the winter (Tokyo doesn’t get that cold fortunately) and I found her underneath a car in a nearby parking lot. My mother and I struggled to catch her, but when we brought her home, she seemed happy to have regular access to food. Don’t lose hope just yet. I’ve heard about other missing cats discovered months or years later miles away.

Thank you so much for your encouragement. I will never stop looking for him, I just wish I had a solid direction. There's been another sighting in the same town 20km away this week but the cat sighted was wearing a collar. We went and letterbox dropped the area and put up posters. The next day the posters were taken down by someone. The cat seen looked like him and had no tail also. The man actually managed to catch the cat because it was in his chicken coop but let it go when he saw the collar thinking it was a neighbours cat. He then saw my post online and notified me but we've been back each day and nothing. Today I sent out a phone alert to the residents but haven't heard anything. I'm worried he's heading home, the roads are treacherous and we had a report of a deceased cat on that road the week before with his colours. We went that night but only found a badly decomposed cat with a tail. I hope this isn't a wild goose chase and I still have no idea how he could've got there

So the man who might have had him does have your contact information? Perhaps that cat will turn up again. I'm wondering if someone took him in, got him a collar, and he slipped out, trying to get home.

Yes he has all my contact information and he has a cat cage so he is able to secure the cat next time while I drive there. I'm not sure what I'm dealing with. The whole area knows I'm looking for him (it's a tiny town - 300 ppl) but no one has come forward except this one guy. The cat ran over two fences into an empty lot with a few sheep in it. After that he doesn't know where it went :( i don't know whether to keep putting pressure or to just give it time because I'm worried if someone has found him and wants to keep him that they'll hide him away from sight or relocate him. :'( police have been informed to look out for him while patrolling... The area is not the most civilised place...

I showed the man this photo of him and he said the face is why he is so sure. He said the cat had a strange face and tiny tail.

It does sound as if maybe someone has him hidden, and he escaped. If he got out once, perhaps he'll manage it again. And being hidden in someone's home is certainly better than any of the alternatives!
