What Is Your Favorite Cat Litter And Why

They are all too dusty. It seems like I have a layer of dust on everything. But I need clumping and I can't afford 40 pound boxes of the fancier kinds. I need 40 pound boxes to fill these jumbo size litterboxes. Demi would eat the corn ones. So I'm stuck with these I guess.

You guys know i love my grass litter, and the litter maid walnut litter. I have been mixing those one bag of each in each box now, and they work even better when mixed! I also still like my crystal litter. But i may or may not have a problem..lol i have to try new litters

I tried the hartz clumping paper litter last week. I kind of like it. The cats are peeing in it without problem, its pellets, but smaller pellets, and fairly soft, still using the grass and walnut for poo. This paper litter is very low dust, no smell, and it seems to clump quite well. Tracks right outside the box a little when they jump out, its very light weight. But seems like it will be a very good option for anyone looking for a clumping, non clay, light weight, very low dust, no odor litter.

one bag did fill my big box enough so that i should be able to get 2 or maybe 3 weeks for testing. its light weight but quite a bit of volume.

I use World's Best litter, which clumps, but is made from corn and is supposed to be non-toxic if cats swallow it by accident. It was recommended by the foster of my first kitten. The best thing about it is that it's flushable. It does, however, track ALL OVER THE PLACE despite us having a litter mat and area rug right by the litter box to try to minimize tracking. But we vacuum often anyway since my husband is allergic to our cat, so we've decided that the upsides outweigh the downsides.

Just don't buy the scented kind-- the smell of lavender mixed with cat pee is really not something you want to experience.

George and Louie picked Everclean. We put 4 different kinds of litter out for the first couple of weeks they lived with us and they showed a STRONG preference for Everclean unscripted which seems to have a very light scent. However, it is important that the boys have the litter they want to use so we buy Everclean!

I also love, love, love Dr. elsey's respiratory relief silica litter. I used to use the Dr. elsey's long hair cat silica litter, which is easier to find, but when I adopted Delilah she didn't seem to like it and she was already tentative about the litter box so I switched immediately to World's Best, which I also really like, although it is clumping.

Then I got Wendy, who is arthritic and has trouble keeping her footing in litter. Silica litter only needs to be an inch or so high to work well whereas other litters need a few inches, and I saw some Respiratory Relief on sale and grabbed it. Not only does Wendy do well in it, but Delilah immediately started using it as soon as I put it out, so I'm switching all of my boxes over to it. It has some herbal attractants in it that are supposed to be appealing to cats, so I guess that's what did it.

I love it because it's so easy! You use a lot less so you're not lugging around heavy litter boxes when you need to clean them. It sucks up all of the moisture immediately and all you have to do is stir and remove solid waste, which takes less time than scooping out clumps for me. As long as you change it out before it's completely saturated, (which takes weeks, months for some. My Wendy has kidney issues and produces a LOT of urine so we go through it and every litter faster than average) you don't get clumps sticking to the side of the litter box. It also does great at oder control, with no added scents. It's a finer grain than the long haired silica version, so it doesn't seem to bother anyone's paws. The respiratory relief part means it's supposed to be low on dust, and I haven't noticed any dust or coughing or sneezing. I'm going to try their senior silica litter soon to see if it's any different. The company says it is non toxic, and I haven't seen any problems.

All litters have their "risks" unfortunately, although there is not a lot of hard data out there to prove that. They say clumping clay litter can cause obstructions when swallowed, but I have never heard of anyone who has actually had that happen. Natural litters are also technically prone to mold, especially corn litter which can create aflotoxins if moldy. If you clean and scoop your litter boxes correctly it doesn't seem likely, but again it is a risk. Silica litter might be drying on their paws in theory, but I haven't noticed any difference there in my cats.

My favorite was everclean. But its too expensive so I dont buy it. Unless I move to a place that doesnt have a basement and the litter pans have to be in the living space, then i would buy it. That or fresh step is nice. But my favorite was everclean

I love Dr. Elseys respiratory relief silica gel litter too! I have tried the senior version, the only difference i noticed is that it is dusty. On purpose i think, suppose to absorb the pee quicker? I dont know but i was not a fan, i could not tell it worked any better than the respiratory relief one, just much dustier.

I like it just as well, maybe even a touch better, hard to tell. I have seen several new grass litters at pet smart and petco, but i have not tried them.
