My cat is 5 years old but is more like 5 months old, she loves to play and chase etc...before I took her in she spent 4 years on the streets...My problem she will not eat meat or fish..I have to remove all meat from a pouch then she will suck at the jelly or gravy like a kitten...for 20 minutes every night she sucks my throw like a kitten. If I offer fish she turns away she can't stand the smell...I have tried everything...from cheap tinned food to the most expensive with 80-90% meat..she will not touch meat if there is a small piece of meat in it she walks away. She is a very small long haired black cat and her paws are small doll like anyway, she has very small features but I am worried she does not seem to get excited about food... Surely she needs to gain some muscle/weight ? she is more like a kitten I don't know what to do.

What does she eat? Just the jelly from canned food? Has she ever eaten anything else while with you? What have you tried so far?

I assume she ate all kinds of things when she lived on the street, or she would have starved.

Has she been entirely checked out by a vet, make sure she doesn't have any dental issues, etc.?

Hi there, yes my vet has checked her and her teeth he doesn't just says she's fine...I bought her cat biscuits at first but she kept being sick so I bought her grain free and she will eat those but only around 10 a day and she isn't sick...I am wondering if she is catching and eating birds then ? My carer did find some heads of birds a while back away from my garden also the bodies but not the heads of mice.....I wonder if that's how she survived then and she is still doing it. She is due again for her inoculations in August the vet comes to my home and I may ask him to take her in for a full medical check up.

Maybe she doesn’t like the chunky textures. Some cats are particular like that. Have you tried a canned pate?

Yes I tried Pate, mousses and soup again, with the soup she just sucks the fluid and leaves the meat.

I even tried cutting up the meat very small and she doesn't want to know.

I know you said that you tried cutting the meat into small pieces, but what about blending it? That could work with the soup.

Have you tried a pate or mousse type, and add enough water to make it soupy? It might be a pain but at least it would be more balanced than just the gravy from chunky foods.

If she's able to hunt she probably gets some of her sustenance that way. I can't imagine a cat living off gravy for very long. Have you tried giving her some raw meat? She may not recognize cooked meat as food if she was living wild for a long time.

That's an idea I will try that..and see and let you know...honestly she is just like a kitten it's like she hasn't been taught how to take solids. Thank you I will try and let you know. I have had her 1 year now my other cat is 18 years old and eats whatever is there...mention food and she is there !!

But little Billie does worry me... I've never known a cat not interested in food before.

I will try to make a pate and add water and see if that works...She really is a hunter I hate to say it but I can't stop her, I've watched as she hides then tries to catch a bird....I tried raw meat Nope....all kinds of tinned fish pilchards, sardines etc...nope.....she has some toys and loves to play especially football....she seems quite happy otherwise..she has long hair but when I fee; her little body it seems so thin to me although as I said before she is very petite...it's just unusual for a cat not to get excited about any food.

I have paid up to £12 a box for 6 pouches of food and ended up throwing all the meat away....I will definately HAVE to have a word with my vet as surely she is not getting any vitamins or minerals...if ever she gets ill how on earth is she going to fight anything off ...

Terrific! It might be a pain but if she keeps eating the blended food you can know she's getting proper nutrition. Silly kitties, the things we do for them. . .
Ha..ha.... I can't tell you how happy and relieved I am she has just ate 1/4 more bless her....I would do anything for her her health and happiness is what counts. Thank you SO much again. My first time on here and I am overjoyed...
