Hi there,

Has anyone have any experience with their cat scooting and smearing poop all over the floor? This has been the first time Konas ever done this... she seemed a bit constipated so I gave some of her old food that has a little pumpkin in it to help with digestion. Well shortly after she started scooting her bum across the floor and there was smeared poop everywhereee.. Oh man it was a pain cleaning the whole house up. She’s been on the Hill’s diet for over two weeks now after her exploratory surgery. But I think I made the huge mistake of giving her the old food. She’s not going to sleep now and is still scooting here and there even after we have her a bath.. Should I be concerned?

Has she been wormed? Butt scooting us usually a sign that she needs to be treated for worms. Ask your vet to recommend a good brand for you, the cheaper OTC wormers aren't very good and can cause allergic reactions.

It most likely wouldn't hurt to deworm her, but I think it was the food change that happened two weeks ago, go back to whatever food you were giving her before. It seems suspect taht it happened shortly after you gave her her old food. It was just too sudden a change. It could be her anal sacs need cleaning, I doubt it though, that is more common in dogs, or it could be a reaction to the antibiotic/anesthesia had with her surgery. My cat had diarrhea after surgery, every time, so the little bit of diarrhea can be an irritant and itchy. Is her stool loose now? Give her plenty of water and whatever diet she is used to, that will help.

Butt scooting in my experience is because of constipation. There's a piece of poop stuck up there and she's trying to work it out. My cat has done that a couple of times in her life and she doesn't go outside so no worms.
So if I read correctly, the Hill's stuff made her constipated. If she just had surgery, could also be from the anesthesia that she is constipated.
Try some miralax or metamucil (unflavored) in her food to soften the stool.
1/8 teaspoon.

There are several things that could cause her to do this. I am going to recommend a vet check. Hopefully its nothing serious, but without getting her checked you really dont know why she is doing it. And with most things like this the sooner you find out the reason, and treat it, the better :)

It sounds like constipation. Ask the vet if you can try some hairball treats or paste, that might help.

I agree with Timmer Timmer . That's been my experience when my ct scoots poop all over the floor. He gets a little constipated sometimes and we add psyllium to his wet food and that usually clears him right up. We know he doesn't have worms though, and if your not 100% sure with your cat that's something to definitely get checked out.
