Hi everyone! I haven't been very active here on the forums since joining, but I was looking for a little bit of advice and I trust this forum a lot!
Last night, one of my 6mo kittens, Scamander, had to be taken to the emergency vet. When I came home from work, I noted that he was crouching in his litter box for a long time, then getting up and crouching other places. He was very tense, and he was making a lot of sounds signaling he was in pain. His penis/urethra was also beginning to extrude and he was licking at the area. I took him to the emergency vet immediately, where they found a small urethral plug that they removed easily (it was the first day he showed any symptoms, so it wasn't very bad yet). In a urinalysis, they found he has a buildup of struvite crystals in his urine. I've been given several medicines for the next few days (Buprenex, Prazosin, and Onsior, as well him being given a Convenia injection). I have also been given a prescription for Hillspet c/d urinary care, of which I am to feed a mostly wet diet. I'll be switching over his brother too, as I was told he probably is susceptible to the same thing as they are twins, and out of pure convenience.
Today I took him back to the emergency vet after a quick scare, he was showing the same symptoms. However, this time he urinated just fine when he was there, there was no block.
My questions are more about aftercare and what other cat owners do. First of all, when this first happened to your cat and you got it taken care of, did you ever have a secondary scare like mine that turned out to be nothing? Second, if your cats are on a prescription diet, what ratio of wet to dry food do you give them? I was told some dry is okay (still prescription), especially on days where I work a full day and I don't want to leave out the wet food all day.
Really I'm just looking for your experiences on how you and your cats have dealt with this issue, and I'm searching for the best way to prevent any recurrences. Thank you!

. Many cats really enjoy drinking from their very own fountain. OH! BTW, many people also give filtered water vs tap water.
I have a rudimentary cat fountain, one of the very simple ones that moves water in a current around the dish. They did respond better to moving water than just standing water. I would like to buy one of the ones that has that sort of waterfall feature so it's more of a typical fountain rather than just a current, I think they would like that even more. And I will look into filtering my water and see what they think!
