My uncle and I randomly had an argument over the cat's food and he claimed that I'm starving them. I own two cats and feed them both a little bit more than 1/2 a cup of Dr. Elsey's Dry, feed them each a can of Fancy Feast, and some Purebites

Depends on how big your cats are and how big that can of fancy feast is. I put down 1/8-1/4 cup dr elseys each day with a 5.5 oz can Nature's Variety Instinct. The 2 girls are both around 9.5 lbs.

The overweight cat has to be around 10-12 lbs but is around 20 lbs

I don't recall if I mentioned this to you before, but if you lightly feel the ribs, you want to detect a thin layer of fat. That's the body condition you want.
Are you working with a vet on how to gently get the heavy cat to lose weight as necessary?

Ah. When Tom was almost 21 lbs, he was supposed to be 13 so he was placed on 225 calories per day and we did that for four years. He had to eat his meals separately.

It's probably enough. Dr Elsey's dry food has 544 calories per cup, so 1/4 cup would be 136 calories. And 1 can of pate Fancy Feast is usually around 90 calories, so that would be about 225 calories per day, which is plenty for a 10-12 pound cat (or cat who is supposed to be 10-12 pounds, lol). Might actually be a bit much, so if you don't see the results you want, you could cut back a bit.

Just tell your uncle the dry food is super high in calories so it's fine.
