Hello and welcome to TCS.

Your kitten is a male, right? If it was a female, I'd say she was in heat. But I'm not sure if males get more affectionate as they become mature, or not. Has he been neutered yet?

Cats can go through phases. My Apollo slept on me all the time as an older kitten. Once he entered adult hood he slept on the top of the love seat down stairs by himself and only wanted pets on his terms. He now sleeps on my hubby. He will come and hang out next to me when he wants to be petted by me. My oldest cat Starbuck was daddy's kid. She would hang out with me and ask me for pets but I could not pick her up at all. She now waits for me to carry her to bed at night. Last week I was laying in bed watching tv and I asked hubby to bring her in the bedroom. He carried her in and laid down for a little bit. Normally she would climb on him and give him kisses. She actually walked away from him and started grooming me while he was laying down. After she was done grooming me she settled down in her cubby hole in the headboard to go to sleep. She completely ignored him. He told me she did come visit him when he came back later after I was asleep. I can also pick her up and put her next to me on the couch. She will now cuddle with me on the couch as long as the other cats are not around. It used to be she would struggle and demand I put her down when I picked her up. My hubby had to bring her to bed or she would run away from me. He can also pick up Apollo and bring him to bed. Apollo does not let me carry him anywhere. Casey loves both of us equally. Sonny used to be my cat and has over time bonded more with my hubby. He has to get tummy pets before hubby is allowed to go to bed at night. He visits me in bed and cleans my face. He does not let me pet his tummy and he does not groom hubby's face. He has his own bedtime ritual for each of us.

One of my cats that I had as a baby became more affectionate at around that time, too. Cats have scent glands in their cheeks and face, so he's marking you as his family when he does the rubbing. Maybe as he gets older, and bonds with you, he feels closer to you.

I Googled "cat suddenly very friendly" and apparently cats can become more "clingy" when their human mom is pregnant. :catlove:
