My cat has always been a bit wheezy. I think he has asthma or bad allergies, and I was wondering if there was a certain litter that's better for cats with breathing ailments? Thanks!

I'm using littermaid's walnut, and corncob (not just corn), dust free and these two actually help absorb the dust from the clay litter I still insist on using for the clumping :)
duckpond duckpond likes Dr elseys respiratory relief crystals as well

Pretty cat! and Furballsmom knows me well :) I think dust from litter can make a big difference! I have 1 cat, out of 4, that has a mild case of asthma. He would always hack when leaving the litter box. so i went on the "great cat litter journey" :)

If i use any clay litter, i don't care how dust free it seems to be, he hacks! no clay in our house.

I finally decided on 3 that i use all the time. they are all fragrance free, dust free, and most important, no hacking with these three. I think i have used every litter ever made...lol

I like grass litters, i have used the pioneer brand, and like it. I actually prefer the Abound brand of grass litter that i get at Kroger a little bit better. Im not sure where else you can buy it, i know there are a few other stores that carry Abound products.

I love the Litter Maid walnut litter that i get from walmart, have not found it anywhere else. The cats probably use this one more than the other three, but only by a little. they like all 3

I also like Dr. elseys respiratory relief crystals. I dont like the respiratory relief clay they sell, it is dusty. The crystals are great, no dust and they do a good job. they are very fine grain, like sand but dont track. it is the easiest litter to use. scoop the poop and stir a few times daily. dump and refill every two weeks.

I do use a scoop with large holes, i find it easier to scoop without shaking and letting dirty litter back in the box. Also the more you rough up litter the more likely it will break down and have dust. so i am a easy scooper. :flail:

I got the clay, because it was more in my budget, but I will switch to the crystals if he's super sensitive. I actually have him scheduled for a vet appointment next week, because he's been having more flare ups since it's spring. I'm hoping the vet will give him an actual diagnosis. His eyes get really runny too. Poor guy never catches a break.

hopefully it will help him! dont be afraid to try the crystals if the clay does not work. 1 bag of the crystals will last 1 cat a month, so not too bad. also that litter maid walnut and the grass litter work very well too, if the elseys does not. let us know how it goes.

Just updating everyone on what happened at the vet. The vet said it was probably feline herpes. I don't know much about feline herpes, but I'm gonna read up on it as much as I can.
