I'm not sure what I would do. My family is kind of a not-going-gray sort, so I'm 55 with about 6 gray hairs. I don't really have the inclination to go to a salon - I just cut my own hair, lol, so we'll have to see! My hair is dark blonde, but in the sun it turns red.

The prettiest my hair ever was, was one time when I went totally nuts, bought about seven shades of red dye and a cap, and dyed my hair seven shades of red. They were all similar, and the colors just...shifted. I don't have the money OR the patience for that nonsense anymore!

It's always amusing to me how many women want red hair; while my DH was always self conscious about his natural red! He started going white at the temples in his early 20s and for a long time it made him look almost blond or at least strawberry blond. I don't know what to call it now.

One SIL is the same shade of red as DH. She has tried a few other colors and they just don't go with her fair skin. The other SIL was a pretty auburn I think she inherited from FIL. They all have fair skin and some shade of green eyes. It's almost sad none of our kids got coloring from his side! :p (I wanted a little redheaded boy like DH. Instead we got one that looks just like me. )

Nobody liked red hair when I was young, but it seems to be a fashion now, & there are some people who should not have it....their skin tones are totally wrong.

My mom used to babysit for a redheaded little boy when she was a teenager. He hated his hair and always said that he would dye it black when he grew up. She lost contact with him when he was a young adult so I don't know if he ever did that, but now that he's 50, he's going bald so he shaves it. That works too I guess!

My family grays late; I have only a couple silver hairs. And because my hair is so dark, the silver looks pretty good. I'll never have a lot of silver but whatever I get I won't cover it at any point. I've never dyed my hair and don't intend to start :D.

I've had a few gray hairs that I always name after troublesome students when I see them because I assume it's a gift from them. It's not enough for dying yet. At such time as it is I haven't decided what I'll do.

DH talked about wanting to dye his brown. I was like NOOOOO! He was overseas at that time and most of the locals had dark hair and eyes. He's never liked the attention. But he really hated the jokes. And the stereotypes in movies and things. He's one of the most mild mannered people I know. But he does keep it very short so it's less noticeable. In stores the employees used to ask if they could help me and I'd say I was looking for my husband; tall, redhead and they'd point me right to him.

I'm 68 and have almost all gray hair. My mother went completely gray and did not dye her hair but she had pretty hair. Mine is just plain ugly. Plus it makes me look older. I would dye it but I would have to go to a beauty shop to have it done. I'm partially disabled and it would be hard on me to go to the beauty shop so often to get my hair done. I would like to have a dark brown color.

As I apparently have no grey hairs yet (I'm abiut to be 29, but my mother already had white strands when she was 18), I do not have an actual plan, but just the feeling that, whenever grey hair comes, I will wellcome it.

Unlike my mother, who used to have very dark hair, my father, and all his familly, are Ash blondes. So am I, though I dye it golden blonde because my face looks kinda sick with ash shade. My father's hair, as well as my aunties', is not "grey" or "white". They have the most beautiful silver hair, with metallic shine, mixed with hairs of the lightest platinum color. It reminds me of moon elves in fantasy novels. I like it on all of them, so I hope I will like it on me when the time comes :)

My hair would be totally grey if I didn't do anything. I wore it that way for awhile and everyone liked it. It had always been course, but the grey texture is not. I finally decided to get some color because it gives added body to hair. I get low lights and highlights. She uses three colors and leaves some the natural grey. She uses some blondes and a lighter brown and leaves some grey. I get it done about three or four times a year. The roots blend it very well. Now, though, I haven't had it done since way back in the fall. My hair cut is short. I am thinking when she cuts it again, I may be totally grey. Then I will decide if I want to leave it or color it again. My high school class is having a reunion in May. I want to be beautiful then. :yess:

You don't have to pay a salon to color your hair, dyes now days are easy and natural looking. I never thought about coloring my hair until I saw my mother in law a few months after she remarried and went to live on a ranch. She had colored her hair the whole time I knew her. A 48 year old women left and when I went to visit I met a 78 year old! What a difference going back to grey meant! I was absolutely horrified! If grey hair would age you that much why would any one tolerate it when it is so easy to take care of at home? I have colored my hair ever since I started changing. My wrinkles are enough to age me, I don't need any more help!

Mine always was, to some extent. It is this fading that gets me. But I LOVE the silvery gray in it!

It depends on the shade of gray it goes, and the person's face. Some people look old, some look elegant, and you never know until you get there.

I don't mind the color of my gray, but it has the texture of a wire brush, so I color it to make it manageable. My husband does, too. It takes years off us, but especially him. Some people take him for my son and he's actually older than I (by 19 days!)

L'Oreal makes the best coloring for gray. We use Excellence, but some use Preference. They now make one that turns the gray into highlights. I forget the name of it. The Excellence is thick enough to be easy to use and it comes with a good applicator. It lasts well, but we're kind of slugs about keeping it done. Usually we do it right after we get a haircut.

LOL, what I really want is something that DOESN'T cover the gray, just colors the rest! Dream on.

Haha, I suppose you could read the reviews and find one that has a lot of bad reviews saying "doesn't cover gray well!!!"
I may be reduced to that!

That's pretty much what the L'Oreal senior stuff does. It colors the hair but leaves the gray as highlights. It might pick up a little color but there's definitely a difference between the color and the gray. You might like it.
Now, THERE is an idea! I'll be looking into that!
