I am thinking of getting an automatic litter box. The only way to keep the odor down is by feeding expensive raw food. There must be an easier way. I do notice sprinkling baking soda in the litter helps a bit.

I HAVE THREE CATS, TWO LITTERBOXES.. I DO NOT KNOW HOW WE WOULD LIVE WITHOUT THIS STUFF!.. works wonders!!!

I just sprinkle some in when i change litter, give it a good mix, and every couple times I sift out the nasties, i sprinkle a little more and give it a good stir!.. WA-LA.. smells good!, I also use the dome litter boxes, they come w carbon filters at the top, works way better than, normal litter boxes!

I second the non scents! Natural stone and doesn’t track like baking soda, it’s amazing really. Also, what goes must come out, stick with low stink meats, the fishies are off the menu in our house. :fish:And I like the Fresh Step Crystal litter so much. It’s large enough so it doesn’t track, amazing for odor, sprinkle Nonscents and we have a litter genie and a clean smelling house.:cool2:

The Arm and Hammer deodorizer is very heavily scented which some cats may not like, especially if the litter box is a covered one.. Plain baking soda will work just fine. You can also place non scented odor absorbing bags and the like near the box.

A raw diet doesn't always result in a stink-free litter box. One of my cats has been eating raw since he was a kitten and he has really stinky poop:doh: My other cats eats the same food and her poop has little odor.

You may want to consider adding a probiotic and digestive enzymes to the diet. That may help the body break down food better and result in little waste coming out.

I have found that walnut litter covers any smells quite well. I have one female that loves nutro minced chicken and the turkey, she does smelly things in the litter box when i give her that food, so i dont often. I have been using litter maid walnut litter that i get from walmart lately. It seems to cover up smells well. My grass is fine, but dosent hide poo smells like the walnut does.

I had purchased The World's Best Cat Litter that is made out of corn and had to stop using it. The litter itself had an odor, which combined with the cats poop, causing a terrible odor mix. Not sure why. I thought it was the worlds best cat litter by the advertisements.

Yes! Non Scents litter deodorant is the best! I use an enclosed box, and one kitty likes to dig to China when she goes, so I don't like the overly perfume smelling / dusty deodorizers, as it gets on their fur and they end up smelling like it / licking it off. I used baking soda, one of my fave cleaning products anyway, for a while, but it's got nothing on the power of that Non Scents stuff. It's also kinda the consistency of clay litter: so not very dusty. I also use Dr Elsley's scented Ultra Litter, which only activates a deodorant upon contact with moisture. Combined with the Non Scents, I have two cats and a home which all manage to be free from litter box smell!

I was using Hartz Fresh Scent Deodorizing Litter Beads into the litter and my cats were ironically eating them! I had to stop using it! Does Dr. Elsey's litter clump very tightly? Is it expensive? What store you buy it from? It controls odor very very well? I just purchased the Smart Scope automatic litter box. So far it's been 3 days with two cats, and no cleaning yet! I am still in trial basis but so far it seems to be working for me.

Dr Elsleys clumps very tightly. They're rock hard clumps! I order it online at chewy.com for $14.40 for a 40lb bag. They deliver for free for orders $49 and over or for autoship orders. You can also buy it at petsmart, and probably most pet stores.

There's also an unscented version, which is pretty good, but maybe slightly less tight clumping. I haven't used an automatic litter box before, but I scoop 2x a day, and I love that I don't have to spend forever fishing out tiny pieces of broken clumps, or change all the litter out often because of waste that I can't retrieve. The rare times where a clump breaks, it's still very easy to get all the pieces out with normal scooping motions, because it clumps almost instantly.

I like crystal litter. It works in an automatic box too. It's expensive but not too insane, well, depending where you get it.

Are they altered yet? There's really no way around tomcat odor :barfgreen:.

Would this be different than the regular box of baking soda? I’ve tried sprinkling the regular Arm & Hammor in my litter boxes and it doesn’t work. I scoop several times a day, no luck with keeping odor away. Help.

Hi! Sorry you’re dealing with odor, it’s the worst! I’ve been using Nonscents to sprinkle in, it really does help. It’s natural zeolite rocks, no tracking like baking soda products either! Also, nothing works like zero odor! It’s a fairly new technology that breaks odors into harmless water molecules- so the scent is literally destroyed, it can’t come back! The stuff is amazing, I use it on everything all the time. Slight bleach smell is all it has, and it disappears in a minute or two completely. I sprayed it in the hallway last night after Buttercup had a rather ucky moment, it does a great job clearing the air and surfaces. It works better than enzyme cleaners even, totally removes any smell even to cats. Read my post above for what litter works, you do need to buy the box with steps though because other wise it tracks like mad! I’ve also been sprinkling a handful of Crystal litter in with the regular, it’s totally helped with the extra humidity right now and helps the regular litter work better at drying the yucky stuff. Hope this helps! :)

Babypaws Babypaws here it is! I tagged you in another feed because the box in this is the wrong on, you really need the box with steps to keep this litter from tracking. Good luck!
You’re most welcome! Finding the best litter for your little family is SO important! OkoCat was suggested by the lovely folks here, and I have been using it now for several months, with no plan to change! Let me give you my secret recipe!:)
After reading MaNY reviews online, one gentleman said to mix approximately 30% clumping longhair, with %70 soft clumping. Everyone loved this mix SO much, but the number one complaint was tracking- said to be worse than any other litter. I was determined since I cannot have any sand based product in home. I found the Booda dome litter box, that has stairs the cat must use to get in and out of the box. This steps have texture and little gutters that keep the litter in the box, it’s an amazing combination! I also keep a catch mat in front, but very little makes it that far. When I scoop I sweep the steps with a hand broom and tip any loose from the mat and the steps back in the box, and NO tracking!! I also add nonscents to the litter for any smell, so no baking soda residue anymore either! The other I just came up with a few weeks ago was adding a handful of Crystal litter to the mix (since I had leftover bags to use up) and it keeps the wood dry and fresh. Also, using a liner keeps the box from smelling, and the only liners that fit and are thick (the ones they sell aren’t) are the Johnny cat jumbo liners. I use packing tape to tape them around the edges. Also, Zero Odor spray is everywhere in my home, it chemically breaks down any scent to harmless water molecules, the scent is GONE no covered up! I can’t live without the stuff, it has a light bleach smell. It’s sold out all the time on amazon, but bed bath and beyond carries it too.
Seriously, it’s perfect!! A gal who fosters kittens has already switched too! Try it and share if you like it!:)

(You just remind me I forgot to do the box yesterday- in this heat! Blaaaa!)

Okay, I received the Nonscents odor control today. Sprinkled it in litter box but I couldn’t smell a difference. I’ve always used Cat’s Pride clumping litter.

I feed expensive raw food and use Everclean unscented litter which is also expensive but we have absolutely no litter box odor with our Litter-Robot Open Air 3! A fair trade off as far as I am concerned!
