Hey everyone...
4 years ago at exactly this time of year, one of my girls took me on the worst journey of my life that lasted 4-5 months well into July. She was diagnosed with mild IBS and an enlarged pharynx, and finally after ignoring what the vets kept pushing me to do and weaning her off the steroids they had me put her on, I just went out and bought some quality cat food and I never looked back.
But now I'm looking back...
I don't know what happened. Her sister was having an off morning and had a hairball for the first time ever (they'd had hairy spit up before but never a hairball). So she rejected her food, and when my IBS kitty did the same, I just thought she was sensitive to the fact that her sister was turned off and not at the 'dinner table' with her like normal. When lunch rolled around, her sister was finally eating again but IBS kitty still would not.
I normally keep my girls on a rotation of NV INSTINCT Chicken, Rabbit, and LID Duck. My last trip to the pet store though I accidentally bought a bunch of LID Turkey and when I ran out of the Duck, I didn't really have any qualm about giving her the Turkey because there's Turkey meat in the Chicken cans as well. They'd been eating Turkey fine for a couple days now until this morning, so I'm not sure this is relevant.
Anyways when she rejected the Turkey I tried opening Chicken and again was rejected. I thought maybe she just wasn't in the mood. So then supper rolled around and again tried Chicken--still no luck.
I'm planning on possibly trying Rabbit tomorrow morning, but my heart is sinking because this feels all too familiar and I don't know what to do... Especially since I normally spend a week mixing flavours to transition and now it's become clear I cannot do that, I don't know if I'm going to flare up her IBS or something...
Does anyone have any good high quality wet foods to recommend similar to Instinct if I need to abandon ship?
And any advice in general? She seems a little down, but I'm hoping that's just low energy from lack of food. She's sleeping comfortably next to me right now and seemed relatively alert throughout the day, just more sedentary than usual. So I'm hopeful this isn't IBS coming back full force yet, but I want to do whatever I can to make sure it stays that way...
Also I apologize if this would be more appropriate for the health forum. I'd originally just planned on asking for alternatives to Instinct but went off on a tangent in addition to that!
