Hiya,

Don’t suppose anyone could help me/shed some light...

We think our cat has got a polyp in our ear and the vet seems to think so too.

Does anyone know a ball park figure of how much it could cost to gave it ether removed? (In GBP)

We normally tend to take Sherlock to Vets for Pets.

Thanks in advance

Did your vet not provide an estimate for the surgery? They should have talked you through the treatment options and provided a baseline estimate of "this is what it will probably cost if there are no complications". (And also provided a referral to a specialist surgeon if necessary).

One of my cats had polyp surgery recently, there are 2 types of surgery.

One involves removing the polyps at the stalk where they grow out of surrounding tissue - this is the most affordable type of surgery, but as the tissue that the polyps grow from is left in place, they can regrow. This option is A LOT cheaper than the option described below.

The other type is more complicated and expensive surgery on the middle ear to remove the tissue they are growing from as well as the polyps themselves. This is called a Ventral Bulla Osteotomy. This is the type of surgery my cat had (he has Petplan insurance), the estimate for this surgery was £2.5 to £3k - that is London prices, where there are high overheads, it may be a little cheaper in other regions. (There were complications however, so our bill is much higher than that).
