Hello, all. I'm John from Upstate NY. I'm not new to cats, but I am new to this site.

Unfortunately, I recently lost my cat, Denver, who I was told was a two year old Domestic Long Hair when I adopted him from a local rescue. We had 13 wonderful years together.

Although for a few years prior to Denver's death I swore I'd never get another cat, I lasted a week without a cat in the house. This Monday, I adopted Patches, who is a year and a half year old American Short Hair Tortie girl. She's a rescue from a kill shelter in Tennessee, and had been an owner surrender. She's very shy still, but loves attention, and seems like she's going to be a social cat once she comes out of her shell.

Welcome to TCS! We’re glad to have you here. I’m so sorry to hear about the loss of your sweet Denver. He truly was an absolutely gorgeous cat. I’m glad that you were able to open your heart to a kitty who needed a home. Patches is very pretty! I look forward to seeing more pictures of her around the site.

I'm so sorry that you're dealing with Denver's death, and hope that Patches will help. I love torties! (mine is a dilute tortie)

I recently lost my wonderful cat, Gwendolyn, who I'd had for over 15 years, and didn't last long without a new cat. My apartment just didn't feel like home without a little fuzzy friend. So I can relate to your story a bit.

HI! Glad to have you and your new Tortie girl here :) I am very sorry for the loss of your Denver! I have also lost cats that i love, and it hurts. I think the best way to honor them, and the life we had with them, is to rescue another cat! Im glad you have her, and she has you :)

Welcome to TCS! I was so sorry to hear of your loss, Denver was, and is, a beautiful cat. But...Patches is a cutie, I have a soft spot for torties, and I'm THRILLED that she is no longer in a kill shelter! BLESS YOU!

Sometimes, if I'm looking at something on my phone, Patches will come up and start chewing on the corner of my phone. Or, other times, she'll bite my finger. Is this the "tortitude" I hear people talking about at times?

I'm not sure! My Juniper is a dilute tortie, and I'm still waiting for her to show the infamous tortitude....so far, she's pretty sweet and mellow. When she rubs her face against almost anything, including phones, books, my hand, etc., she does like to rub her teeth against it in addition to her face. If I let her, she will also give it a little nibble at the end. It's not exactly chewing, though.

I'm not certain I've seen it yet, either, to be honest. I posted more to be funny and discuss what she does more than to actually ask if she's displaying tortitude. She's definitely full of personality, though!
