So my boyfriend and I recently moved in together. His cat is a little piggy who devours her food within minutes, and my cat is a grazer. We are gone at work all day, so right now their feeding schedule is they get half their portion in the morning, and another half portion when we get home from work. My boyfriend's cat eats her entire portion when she gets it, and my cat tries to graze on it and usually doesn't finish it before I have to put it up. My cat has a heart condition, so I have to crush up her pill in her food (wet food). I'm concerned she's not getting enough to eat because I have to put the food up when I leave for work or when I go to bed so the other cat doesn't eat the pill or eat so much she gets sick. I've considered leaving food out during the day, but I know the other cat would just eat all of it. Since we moved in together, my cat is probably eating about half of what she should. I know the ideal solution would be to feed them small amounts multiple times per day, but I'm at work all day and this is not an option for me. Does anyone have any suggestions for feeding a grazer and a piggy when they can only be fed twice a day? I'm hoping that my cat will start to learn that if she doesn't eat all of her food when it's down she won't be fed again in till hours later. Help!

Is there any chance you might be able to afford a microchip feeder? It's a feeder that only let's the cat with the right chip synced to it to eat the food that is inside. I've heard they are a but expensive but maybe with that you'd be able to leave the food down so your grazer can do what they do best, graze ^^

Otherwise, is there any way to seclude the Frazer with there food? Or maybe top there food off with something they really enjoy so they eat it all?

Idk lol I'm sure someone will come in eventually with better suggestions!

I second the microchip feeder! They run just under $200 so it is a bit of an investment. I have a family member with the exact same issue and it solved all her problems. It takes a couple days to get the cat used to the noise and movement but its a pretty painless process. If they ever make one that's dog proof I'm buying it immediately

Well i have 2 girls that are grazers, and 2 boys who are pigs..lol what worked for me was to start free feeding a high protein low carb dry, i use Dr. Elseys chicken. all the cats like it, but no one over eats with it, after the first week anyway :) Then i feed wet food twice a day, the grazers don't normally finish theirs, but i don't have to worry about them starving, as they can nibble on the dry. The pigs who eat most of the wet nibble the dry as well, but they don't eat much. I have fed this way for a few years now, and it works for my guys.

Feeding this way i go through 4 to 5 small cans of wet a day, and a 6 lb bag of Dr. Elseys about every 5 weeks or so. This is for 4 cats.
