Hi everyone.

I recently got a persian/flame point kitten. She is 10 weeks and her name is Coconut. A few days ago she got the respiratory shot and got dewormed. We are to return in 4 weeks for more shots. But a few days prior to that, until now, she’s been pretty bloated. I noticed she poops maybe once a day and it’s dark brown- and it’s so smelly. She has dry food out, fresh filter water everyday and eats wet food (mixed with water) twice a day. I am trying to train her to get on a schedule regarding wet food. Coco is playing just fine and isnt meow-ing or acting unwell, but her stomach is pretty bloated, her poop is dark/smelly (today I looked throughout her poop with gloves and did not see any parasites but i did see some fur not sure if thats normal too). Planning on taking her to the vet to see but thoughts?

Hi, congrats on new kitten! :happycat: Good thinking on getting her to the vet! You can call the vet first and ask about your kitten’s symptoms as well as if you should bring the stool sample with you. Hair in poop is usually normal, they groom themselves and ingest hair which is not digested but come out either with poop or as hair balls. You might want to brush her - good for getting rid of some of loose fluffs as well as bonding with your kitty. Stinky poop as well as bloating could be due to her tummy not agreeing with food you are currently feeding her...

Hope someone else will chime in soon.

Thanks so much! She’s been eating Blue Buffalo kitten wet food and the blue buffalo wilderness dry food. Do you have any suggestions for dry/wet food?

Smelly poop and a bloated belly are good indicators that she could have worms. Although she may have been dewormed, it can often take 1-2 weeks and a variety of different dewormers to get rid of them depending on the type of worm. Do you know what dewormer the vet gave?
