Sorry, you are having troubles. He is biting because he is declawed. His first line of defence - his claws - has been taken away so the only thing he can do is bite. It’s a very common consequence of declawing. Please, keep him indoors since he can’t defend himself if he ever runs into trouble while outside.

I hope someone with experience with declawed cats biting will come along and offer advice.

Hi my Big Guy was front declawed by previous owners and doesn't bite. I think every cat is different. Do you have a way to give something soft, a toy, a rag, something other than your arm for him to bite. A sharply spoken no, even a hiss like his mama cat would have done?

I understand. Does he like catnip? Does he bite only during play time? Has he been to a vet lately?

The only other things I can think of is to yell ouch, and then walk away/ignore him when he bites, but you've probably tried that as well. That approach will work but it takes time. Perfectpaws website has a few things as does petmd but maybe you've looked there also. It's possible your vet might have something similar to Prozac that might calm him a little bit, including slowing down the door darting. Keep an eye on this thread as the days go, hopefully someone else here will have experience stopping a biter. Best of luck to you!

Hi - here is a quote from another thread where the biting cat is named Polly, and the poster I'm quoting below has a cat named Jamie that was a biter as well. These cats were biting everybody including the mailman, family members, anybody who was talking on the phone, all sorts of things. I'm so hoping this helps you!

Does Polly show any signs of hyperesthesia syndrome? That was Jamie's diagnosis. It never completely disappeared, but improved after a bout of eosinophilic granuloma. We had him tested for food allergies, and after eliminating soy and beet pulp from his diet, the "rippling skin" and manic behavior also lessened quite a bit.

I was advised to distract him when he showed the first signs of aggression by dropping a set of keys on the floor or throwing ping pong balls or a small toy. It worked most of the time, but meant having full pockets all the time.

Nowadays I work at a shelter, and we've had pretty good results giving cats (and dogs) that exhibit fear aggression Zylkene It takes several days (or a few weeks) before you see any effect, but it's something your daughter might try.

And one other thing you probably thought of, there is a way to search this site by keyword, in your case of course the word being bite or biting or biter. There are a lot of people who have posted previously about multitudinous issues and I'm thinking biting has likely been discussed here frequently.

Also, in the meantime yell ouch when the cat bites and then walk away from it, ignoring it. Every time. It should catch on.

Hi again. If you hadn't already, did you try valerian in one form or another which is found in many specially prepared 'cat-calming' products that you could buy, or you can buy the dried root (it's a herb).
And, L-Tryptophan, which is also found as an ingredient in many cat-calming capsules that can be sprinkled onto food.
Are you having any luck getting your cat to stop biting?
Did you have a chance to ask your vet about getting a kitty Prozac?
