Recently, 1month ago, I got a new cat, 6month/M, and have been trying to adapt him and my other cat, 2yr/M. It hasn't been the best but seems to be getting better.

My 2yr cat has stopped growling when seeing each other through a 2inch opening in the door that separates them and seems much calmer and the 6month is more rambunctious and ready to swat... And now they have started chirping at each other through the door...especially at nighttime.

Side note: I've tried to slowly ease them into the same room and all but if every around each other my 2yr would growl and hiss and the 6month turned its head away. (One time he did attack when @yr was walking away.)

What does the chirping mean? And if it's means friendly should I let them out near each other again?

(First time having to adjust two cats to one another.)

I'm willing to take any advice/knowledge.

Thanks,

CatDaze

Are they rolling into the cat attack ball? Or just hissing, growling and batting each other? How do you react when they get at each other? Have you tried feeding them at the door so they aquatint each other with good experiences? How long has it been since the last time you let them out together? Have you tried having one in a carrier while the other investigates and alternating who is in the carrier?

  • The 2yr hisses and growls while the 6month just bats at him.
  • Whenever they're near each other I calmly talk to them and pet them and I've given them treats (2yr ignore me while the 6mnth eats and starts purring from being petted.)
  • I've had them on both sides of the door and had them eat, in the beginning they both were stiff and would growl or just not eat and be away from the door but now they're fine.
  • They were out together yesterday because one of them got out of the room, door not shut fully, and they sat there about a foot from each other. 6month: tense and slowly inching towards the other. 2yr: growling and crouched down.
  • We tried the cage thing but the 2yr would sit 2 ft away and growl. When vice versa the 6month ignored the cage and would play with the furniture/cat tree.
