My sweet kitty Nikon had to get the PU surgery as he was blocked and the vet said he had tons of stones. Breaks my heart to see him like this. He’s still bleeding and the surgery was 4-5 days ago. It’s not red but every time he pees he runs out dripping pee because it hurts him. Thankfully I’m heading out of town so I’ll be boarding him at the 24/7 vet so they’ll be able to keep an eye on him and hopefully he’ll be getting his stitches removed there too. Please tell me he’ll be done bleeding when I get back.

I hope he knows I did the right thing for him even with the pain he’s in

I hope he won’t avoid the litter box because of the pain and pee all over my house-can anyone who has a cat who had this provide some tips on post op recovery?

Tommy didn't have any complications. The bleeding was extremely light and only for about 2 days. He wouldn't poop for 3 days at a time, and he was urinating 1 time per day. We got his stitches out at 2 weeks but left the cone on for another two weeks because he would over groom. After a month, the cone was off, and he groomed himself so raw that he kept asking me for food, because I've raised an emotional eater like his mother. I gave him a few treats and plenty of love, and told him I know it feels weird but you have to be more gentle on your nethers. His surgery was in February.
Some cats continue to dribble after their procedure, and there are so many different experiences on the Cat Site, but we've been good.

He should be done bleeding when you get home, and if there have been any complications, the vet you are boarding with will certainly be able to handle it. Is this your regualr vet? If not, be sure to tell him exactly what is going on, so they will pay special attention!

I know how we hate to have a cat in pain, but this pain now is so much better than the horrible pain of stones continually trying to pass! He should be ok with his box, although if he avoids it once he is healed, try buying a different type of box and a different type of litter so that there aren't any bad associations.
