Isn’t the arm and hammer a tiny box that’s 10 bucks? Trust us, the other brands we told you about and that are cheap are just as good...

It depends which one you get. The Double Duty is $14 for 40 pounds, and is pretty good, I use that one. The fancy ones like Slide or Clump and Seal are a lot more expensive.

Sounds like you're getting it under control! :banana1:

I have 6 cats and have found the Kroger store brand of unscented clumping litter works great! I have 5 boxes- they tend to really use 3- and only spend about $25/month max on litter.

Thank you all again for all the advice all the cats are happy and healthy I don't feel nothing was really taken away from them a couple of them are just not overweight anymore they've lost a tiny bit of weight to wear their belly isn't hanging to the ground which is a good thing probably a blessing in disguise lol. There still getting 5 to 6 cans a good day just not 10 to 11 . And they're still getting one high-quality grain free food as well as one medium to high quality food which I honestly feel is comparable to Royal Cain. And as far as the litter that litter from Costco is amazing I can't believe I ever paid $50 a bag for so long for that week later I just can't believe it . I honestly feel if I would've been using a cheaper litter like this from the beginning I would've never been put in the situation of feeling like we were overspending on our cats ! I just was trying to do the right thing by getting a biodegradable weeks later but honestly I would've thought that the price wouldn't be so much . Anyhow thank you again and as I said before the cats are very happy and healthy and I am indeed less stressed !

I know this has been said, but you are paying way too much for litter. I get mine from Walmart or Jet.com. The Arm & Hammer clumping litter is inexpensive and works great for us. Walmart also has a brand called Special Kitty that is inexpensive. They have all kinds, so just take a look. There is nothing wrong with Friskies canned food. I've never met a cat who didn't like it, (they feed it at Best Friends all the time) and you don't even have to give them canned food every day. All dry would be okay if that's all you can do. Better than surrendering them or giving them less food. Shop around online for deals and look for coupons. I do sympathize with you on the vet bills. I know they can be outrageous.

Oh yes I know! But I did not know a few months ago that was for sure. I now get the big 18K one at costco and it works GREAT! Thanks

It definitely sounds like your problem is too many cats plus choosing more expensive products, such as that litter. If you want to surrender some of your cats and there is not a no-kill shelter near by, you might consider using something like Craiglists or putting up and ad in a nearby petstore. The newer/younger cats probably have a better chance of being adopted.

When I lived in the country several years ago, people were always dropping kittens off in my field. Instead of trying to keep all of them or giving them to the only nearby "shelter" (i.e. a kill pound), I raised them about 12-16 weeks, had them spayed, advertised them with ads at the local pet store, and adopted them out to friends or people who the pet store employee confirmed were (sane) regulars and that I met in-person to discuss the kittens needs with.

Never mind. It looks like you are getting cost under control and can keep the cats. :yess:

Is that all crystals? When making a change to a totally different type of litter you need to take some time. Mixing the litters together; starting with mostly what they use now, or something like it, gradually having more of the new stuff until it's all the new stuff. There are many cats that never can tolerate the feel of crystals.
Just in case you didn't know this already!
I am completely with the cut costs and keep the kitties. I live in the country and have many cats show up, have 12 right now. I pray that any cats abandoned in this area better find someone to take them in. Without strong survival skills, they will be a coyote's dinner within days. I feed Friskies pate', if I'm having to hurry they get Good Life from Walmart.

oh yeah I totally did that and the funny thing was that I left two litter boxes with the old litter and then I took two litter boxes with the new litter and they totally stopped using the old litter within a day and the other two litter boxes were filled with their P and poop and they just didn't use the other ones it all ended up have to dump them and fill them with the new litter . I honestly feel very blessed most who's that my cats are very easy-going !

Changing litter can be hard. I use the cheapest litter possible and it works great. I use Tractor Supply's Paws n Claws. They just had a sale and I got 80 lbs of litter for $18. Their unscented stuff is usually $6 for 25lbs and their scented is like $10 for 40 lbs.

But that's amazing your cats changed over so quickly!

Do you live near a Tractor Supply? Their 4Health canned foods are, im told, pretty good.

By “cat flu” do you mean an infection, or feline herpes virus? If it’s the virus, please do consider asking your vet for famciclovir. It seems more expensive but my cat has herpes abc the lysine was actually more expensive for him, bc it was less effective. Now I give my cat a pill a day and it clears up in a week and stays clear for many months, and reoccurances of the herpes are much less severe. I just got 60 pills for $48, and that’ll do him for the next two years plus.

I know you love your cats, but if you can find a *good* no kill shelter or get a trusted family member or friend to take maybe 2 of your fur kids, you might be better off and them too. You’d not be dumping them; just think of this as a long term foster fail. It’s ok to admit it’s gotten hard. I wish you well.

Try the cost cutting first. The other options will still be there, but I believe, you would always wonder "what if".
