I knew what I signed up for when I got two little kittens but I cannot stand cat hair! They seemed like they weren't shedding at all for the longest time and I thought it was because they were on a good diet. Now all of a sudden there is cat hair everywhere!! They are shedding like crazy!

They're both short haired cats so it isn't really too bad, but its driving me crazy. I just bought a furminator and have been using that on them. I have to catch them when they are asleep or else they just bite at the brush and try and play with it.

Other than daily brushings with the furminator what else can I do? Am I going to just be a slave to the cat hair forever?! :bawling:

Welcome to the world of cat ownership :wave3: It's a good time to invest in shares in lint rollers...

Are you in a warmer climate? My cats shed like crazy at this time of year (summer in Australia).

I use the Furminator on my boy - he doesn't like it though and only permits me to brush him when he's distracted (so i brush him while he's eating). My girl cat hates being brushed so I end up with fistfuls of fur when I pat her, which I then clean up with a lint roller (on me, not the cat). Other than that it's regular vaccuming!

Lucky they're cute hey? ;)

Accept it. Eventually you'll learn to accept it. lol

I kid!

I use a robot vacuum almost daily which helps keep the fur down, I let it run while I am at work.
I also use throws on my bed and couch, that way when company comes, I can take the throw off.

I find my cats shed the worse when it's near winter and spring.

I only have one cat but unfortunately she doesn’t allow grooming so she literally leaves a trail of fur behind her. I use an upright vac on carpeted areas and a canister vac (the kind with bags is a must) a couple times a week on floors and furniture plus daily Swiffer sweeper use. I have a pile of small fleece blankets for her favorite sleeping spots including the end of my bed that I rotate and wash weekly. This keeps the house relatively fur free and presentable for unexpected guests.

Hair is a condiment in my house!!! I use blankets EVERYWHERE, I BUY matching bedspreads on my sofa and loveseat yearly and when company comes they go in the washer. I regularlly brush/comb them all. MAX is so used to it he even likes the hair dryer!! He comes running when I get ready for work and am drying my hair!

Kittens usually don't shed until they start to get their first adult coat....then they "blow" the kitten coat. It's possible that's what's happening and their future sheds will be less (or maybe more :devilish:)...but a different amount from what you're experiencing now.

I just bought myself one of the robot vacuums. I don't have a cat in the house. I am still surprised at the amazing job this little machine does. I think the vacuum would be wonderful for a household with cats.

I raised a daughter with long hair. Got pretty used to having it everywhere. Clogged dryer filter, clogged bathtub drain and sink were pretty routine. What really bothers me way more than the hair is the random barf in places that should not be barfed on like the computer printer. However, stepping on something wet and slimy in the dark is not much of a mystery anymore, pretty much is always random barf.

You could buy/DIY one of those cat grooming brush arcs and see if your cats will use them and self groom.
If your cats won't let you use the furminator, you could try a grooming glove. Because you'd basically be just petting your cat, it could be easier. It has helped reduce a lot of fur flying around in my house.
If you want to quickly get rid of fur once it's shed, a good tip is to use a latex glove. Slide one on and just scoop-rub the fur off your furniture. It works great.
And of course, vacuum and lint rollers. If you're worried about too much shedding, try supplements to improve coat condition.
Besides all that, having fur everywhere is just something we gotta accept. There's no way to truly get rid of it.
