Hi, I haven’t been active in awhile because I’ve been away at school and we haven’t had many problems with the cats lately. But about a month ago Princess (the purebred persian) got outside and we couldn’t find her for three days. Thank god we did find her, however she was infested with fleas. It got so bad we had to shave her. We have treated religiously, baths, dips, collars, topical, everything and my baby is still infested with fleas. It’s bad enough she’s infested, but she’s also allergic so she is digging herself hairless and bleeding. It’s so bad she has to wear sweaters to keep from harming herself. She’s miserable, I want to cry just looking at her. I need any kind of advice as to what the hell to do at this point to help her, is there anything the vet can do that I can’t?? Just anything really. I’m willing to try.

You need to treat your house. If I were you I'd call a professional pest control company. There's absolutely no reason for an indoor cat to have fleas. Professional treatment in concert with flea baths and a veterinarian-grade topical should remedy your problem quickly.

We treat the house periodically and none of our other animals including our other cat have fleas. And the topical we have been using is directly from the vet, which is why I was seeking advise. I’m getting capstarr tomorrow in hopes that this will help.

She may need a prescription strength flea medication. Take her to the vet. One of our babies had them and the over the counter stuff didn't work. We took her in and within a day she was improving- no longer pulling out her fur.

Our vet isn’t exactly helpful with these sort of things, as I said before she’s on flea medication directly from the vet and when I called Saturday they basically told me “well it should be working”. Which is wasn’t at all, so I did some research and got some Capguard. Where she is a persian she has this insanely dense undercoat that the fleas would just burrow into and no matter what we did they could get away from treatment. So where the Capguard works internally she already is 100% flea free. We have to readminister as we go bc it only kills adults and the eggs will of course eventually hatch. But, nonetheless it was a complete turn around within a couple of hours vs the month of torture we have been through.

Capstar doesn't work very well on my cats for some reason. Have you tried Frontline topical?

Yes, the frontline is what is failing me so miserably lol. I have just come to the conclusion that all cats are different with what works. Our other cat on frontline is completely flea free, of course she didn’t get lost in the woods for three days like princess did. Sigh.
