So I adopted a cat about 2-3 months ago, and it's been acting very weird. It meows, or screams when you pick it up, it doesn't like being held. I read something about meowing in the litter box, but it doesn't meow in the litter box. It meows when it comes out. Does this indicate Urinary Blockage?

Please take him to the vet. Something is hurting him. I don't know if it is a blockage. I had a male cat with a urinary track blockage and he didn't cry in the litter box, what he did was try to urinate on cold surfaces.

Okay, but I just want to make sure. He uses the litter box properly, their's big clumps on urine there, and he acts like he's not in pain. I've always thought that he was just meowing after using the litter box to tell us that he was done, and for us to clean it.

I completely agree with Kitty Mommy. He needs to see a vet.

When you say he's screaming when picked up, that leads me to believe that he's in pain. Regardless, cats need a vet visit after adoption just be sure everything is good.

I bet he has a UTI.

When I took him to the vet after adopting him, they said he was fine. Also, I've just heard how a screaming cat sounds like, and he doesn't sound like that. I guess I'll take him to a vet just to be sure.

More likely a UTI than a blockage but left untreated a uti can spread to the kidneys and cause a kidney infection (i as a human have had this and it’s awful)
Or repeated uti’s have been linked to crystals which are what cause blockages.
Definitely go get a urine Test done on him.

I just recently adopted a special needs kitty. She didn’t pee for 24 hours. Although she eventually peed and is doing both normally now (adopted her Friday) and she came fully “vetted” from the shelter, I’m still taking her in to my vet tomorrow for a full top to bottom.

This is a must for any animal expecially shelter animals or rescues as often things are over looked or go unoticed, not intentionally it just happens.

UTI’s are super common and can develop just by a change in cat litter. And blockages can develope from a food switch.

It’s always advisable to take your cat to see a veterinarian other than the vet at the shelter or rescue within 7 days of adoption. Fresh eyes that aren’t always having tons of rescues coming through all day can sometimes spot things that get missed.

If you’re ever unsure NEVER hesitate to ask your Vet. 90% of vets if you call with a concern they’ll tell you if it’s significant enough to bring them in.

A UTI is an easy cure with a round of antibiotics.

Hi!

I was just wondering if someone could tell me if it is normal for there is be discoloration in the urine after the blockage has been performed. I brought my cat, Bryant home two days ago and he seems to be doing great! He’s eating regularly and peeing a lot but I have noticed the urine is a little discolored...

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

My cousin had his cat get a blockage cleared, and it had that color. When he took it to a vet, the vet said that the cat had a disease. You should take your cat to the vet at once.
