Bobcat. He's was 30lbs about a month ago, but, he seems to go through eating stages (so to speak). For awhile he was eating 3/4lb in the morning and 3/4lb in the evening. Then that gradually tapered off to 1/4lb in the morning and 1/4th in the evenings.
He has done that same thing in the past though...lots to very little. BUT, THIS time we decided to blame it on feeding him outside in the morning. We would get home in the evening and every day there would more food still in his bowl. WITH flies, fly eggs, and a few yellow jackets feasting on what he wouldn't eat.
We decided that he probably ate a little bit 1st thing, then went back for more later and inhaled a yellow jacket. AND/OR it was too nasty for him. (for a bobcat, he's pretty darn finicky). If something upsets his stomach one day, he won't eat the same thing ever again.
Anyway, now he's to one meal a day in the evenings. 1lb and I have a clean bowl every morning.

North American bobcat, but...he's a "southern" bobcat. More lanky than his "northern" cousins. Shorter hair as well.
He's 30lbs and darn near has an anorexic appearance in the summer and his fur is short and tan colored.
As of right now (September) the yellowish/tan is disappearing and he's getting NOTICEABLY grayer color, and his fur is getting longer...making him look chunky again.

He is absolutely stunning!

Ive never seen any domesticated cat like him in Canada.

Sadly if he was let outside alone here, he would likely be stolen very quickly.

They probably bring him back within an hour or two! :flail:
In the normal accepted sense of "domestic" pets/animals, he's not.
If you have ever seen a wild bobcat or wild lynx in the woods, That's what he is...less the wild.

Gibbs isn't really "domesticated" as such - he's a wild animal, befriended as a kitten, by someone who understands cats, and who simply isn't afraid. The relationship is a little different from the average cat/Human relationship.

As to being stolen, it's an amusing thought, but unlikely. The Bobcat shares apex predator status with the Cougar in North America, and while the two will - on very rare occasions - tangle with one another, the general rule is to give one another a wide berth. The Cougar's mass is roughly five times that of the Bobcat, but in comparison, the Cougar moves in slow motion. Bobcats are incredibly lithe despite their bulk, and can cover twelve lateral feet in a single motion, from a standing start. Their reflexes are among the fastest on the planet (Bobcats actually prey on rattlesnakes, whose reflex speed during a strike can exceed 165 meters per second squared), and, as basscat basscat will tell you, they can - literally - change direction in mid-air, at the top of an eight foot vertical jump. This image is amusing:

but the commentary is apt; Bobcats will take deer in the wild. They're animals of almost astounding beauty, but to consider them domesticated is to underestimate them.

Okay, last one and I'll stop. These two pictures were taken the same day, just a few minutes apart. I think it's funny that in the 1st picture he looks like a kitten, while in the 2nd picture he almost looks like a panther. LOL

Your bobcat is magnificent. I love my greg and Arnold but the only direction they can change mid air is that of their mind!

In fact greg just had a rabbit escape him and the rabit was only about 4 feet away when the chase started. I have to admit greg is no bobcat, but made he did make good time around the house!

Here they are "hunting" in the yard right now.

Arnold is looking for mice in the periwinkle.

Greg is being tormented by birds that stay just out of reach.

You are spot on. The difference is amazing. Have you ever posted the story of how you two found each other? And please Don't stop posting pictures!

While you're at it, please collect basscat basscat 's Bobcat and send also cos there aint no bobcats here. As an incentive, you'll probably get a discount for multiple packages. Thank you and I shall wait by the door for the courier to arrive. :please: :thanks:

Those pics were taken just a few minutes apart. It's crazy how sometimes he looks just like a kitten, and other times, like a much bigger cat than he really is.
Same thing happens with Oliver. In some pics his head looks like a basketball and in others he looks 'normal.'

Im sorry, I cant give up Arnold and Greg. I have never had such a loving and affectionate cat as Arnold. Greg makes me laugh so hard with his antics that my face hurts. As for bobcat...........I wont go near him and will only admire from afar.

I literally cant wait to get home after work to see my boys.

Come see him and we can change your mind. He LOVES company/visitors more than us!! (probably because visitors don't make him do stuff, don't take him to mean ole vet, don't make him go outside, etc).
It's true though. If you came in the house you would have a bobcat in your lap the split second you sat down. Nose to nose checking you out, deafeningly loud purring, and then he'd start wallowing all over you.

So a Bob can purr. I've always wondered where the change happened. I know some say they can and others say they can't. (bigger cats, that is). Wasn't sure of a bobcat.
Good information to know. No idea why, but it's good to know.

Bobcat is gorgeous.

A coworker told me his wife worked for a local zoo.

He said that on occassion she would (was allowed), to bring home baby exotic cats. He told me some of the species he had handled. He was a reputable person, I believe him .

I remember the very first time we met greg and arnold when we were thinking of adopting them.

Greg (we named him for gregarious), strolled over and introduced himself to my wife. He even let her pick him up. But arnold sat on a chair and stared at us. Im a fairly big guy and certainly not scared of a domestic house cat, but there was something about arnold that made me decide to just leave him alone. He was just a bit too big and staring a bit too intently at us. Yet he has become the most affectionate of the two cats and has bonded very closely to me.

OMG YEAH!!!! We almost name him Perkins (Perkins Co makes diesel engines). And that was when he was a kitten. It's LOTS louder now.
He acts a whole lot like an excited Labrador Puppy most of the time. But, he has selective hearing and is stubborn like a cat.
He will run circles around you as you walk through the house...just waiting until you sit down so he can get in your lap. That little tail will be going 100mph.
He purrs most all the time.
He barks every now and then (WOOF! like a puppy)
He churdles when he's excited. (word I made up, that pretty much sums up that noise)
He whimpers, whines, squeaks, squawks, when he wants attention (anytime you leave him alone, or get out of his sight, and he knows you are still nearby).
He tries to meow, but, just a little squeak comes out. He just can't meow.

We would love to see it.
