I feel like I have a baby...

Bruce still wakes us up at least once per night. At random times, sometimes at 2, or at 4 or 5 am. And he pounces on our legs. We will then shoo him out of the bedroom and close the door. He will go play by himself until it's time for his feeding around 6am. Then we get the incessant meowing until one of us indulges his magesty and gives him food.

He is 15 months, we have him since January and he's slowing killing us by not letting us have a good night sleep. I confess, I went on a weekend get a way in the summer, just to sleep one entire night!

We tried everything (except a new cat, which is not possible right now, and we also feel it wouldn't do the trick with him). The only alternative is to shut him up in the kitchen, where we don't listen to his meowing so loudly, but the kitchen is colder and it feels cruel! I do love the rascal.

I am not really asking for suggestions, but empathy.

Do any of you have crazy cats that don't sleep at night?!

Yep, my boy is that same. Sometimes he wakes up at 2, 3, 4 and 5am. Everyday at different timing.
Occasionally he'll sleep through till 4am
I just let him out of the room and he'll come back later and ask for food

My Duncan does the same thing, once a night he usually comes by to check that we are alive and to get a pet. I usually just give him a quick pet and talk to him for a minute then go back to sleep. He usually either lays down with us or goes off to do whatever cats do at night.

Alternatively, you may shut yourself up in the bedroom.
Vega used to do it, too. She'd go sleeping around 12am (so would I ) and wake me up around 3am. That'd result in an hour play time. Then, she'd be up again at 5am. So, that's 4 hours sleep for me every night. Finally, I decided to close the bedroom door when I go to bed (it broke my heart and it still does every night ). Surprisingly, it doesn't only give me a good night sleep, Vega as well. Now, she goes to her bed at midnight and sleeps through the nights until 5:30-6:00am. She will meow then and it works well as alarm. I'm satisfied to have more than 5 hours sleep (you know what I'm saying ;) )

Your cat may never sleep through the night. My cat is seven and not particularly playful during the day but she routinely gets up between 3 and 5 am to play, running up and down hallways and knocking toys under doors and my bed. She knows she can't get wild on my bed but frequently I wake up with sparkle balls and cat springs in the bed.

I have roommates that wake up at 5 am & it wakes me up every morning. Do my cats take advantage of it? Absolutely.... but they do let me go back to sleep. I'm a night owl so I play with them at 2 or 3 am before I fall asleep. Have you tried playing with your cat before you go to bed? You don't need to kick him out. You do need to not reward him for waking you up. No petting, playing with or acknowledging him until your alarm goes off. You might try feeding him after you get your first cup of coffee so he learns you need coffee to feed him, and hopefully quit waking you up. (It is why I feed my cats at night.)

I feel your pain! My cat Saipha drove me crazy with sleep deprivation the first few months after I adopted her. She has pica and would chew holes in and damage things constantly. My ears got so attuned to the sound of her chewing that I would wake up and jump out of bed as soon as I heard her gnawing to try and save whatever thing she was about to eat. And even if I didn't care about whatever she was chewing, I worried about her stomach - either she would throw up within 30 minutes (and then I'd wonder if it was bad for her to be throwing up so much), or she wouldn't and I'd stay up even longer worrying about her getting an obstruction. Thankfully, she's much better now, but I didn't get a full night's sleep for months...

Thank you all! It's good to know I'm not the only one with a crazy cat.

Another night, full of wake up calls from Bruce. I went to bed a bit earlier last night because I was beat and his highness off course came with me. By 1.30 am he was in full play mode, bitting out toes and jumping on the bed and in our legs. Out of the bedroom went Bruce. At 5 am started the loud meowing "I've been here for 4 hours! Let me in and play with me! NOW!". To the kitchen went Bruce until I woke up at 6.30.

We play with Bruce a lot, like one hour straight a lot every night. This prince does not lack attention or exercise. He however has energy to keep a cheetah entertained, and never runs out of it.

We feed Bruce, since the beggining on a regular schedule. He doesn't wake us to be fed. He wakes us up for attention. The night is too long for him. He wants to play more, fight more, cuddle more. And I would, if I didn't have to work in the morning!

We correct him (also tryed ignoring him, but try doing it in the midle of the night when his canine teeth are sinking in your big toe) every time he play/bites us in bed, or out of it. We never play in the bed. But he simply doesn't get it, or doesn't want to get it. He does it to wakes us up and will stop as soon as he's told, but it's already to late, we are awake by then. He bounces right on top of our legs and runs... One of these days I'm setting a nanny cam, because it probably makes a funny youtube video.

Bruce is one of those cats who will missbehave for attention. He's the "knock out stuff until you feed me cat". The "scratch the sofa until you play with me" cat. It's a "me, me, me" fest in our house.

And yes, he is spoiled rotten but I do not know how to treat him any other way.

Here's hoping he'll grow out of it soon.
