Stewart has lost a pound this last week. He is still eating and pooping ok but is visibly skinnier. Help?

One pound over a week is a lot of weight for a cat. There are several things that could cause this... intestinal parasites or hyperthyroidism come to my mind, probably other things too. Can you take Stewart to the vet?

How often do you weigh him? How old is he? Is he at a "generally" healthy weight, or is he too thin or too fat? has he stopped eating a normal amount of food? Was he constipated for a few days before the weight drop?

I have one cat on a diet and his weight varies 4-5 ounces over the course of a week, but he tends to "average" the same weight week after week with a very slow steady weight loss. A couple weeks ago he lost 5 ounces in one day, but by the end of the week he was "normal".

It is concerning - one pound in one week is way too much, but we need some more details to determine what's going on.

If he lost a pound in a week, he's probably lost more before that. This should be considered very serious and a vet appointment is needed right now. It may be easy to correct depending on what it is, but regardless, the sooner its addressed is the key to helping him and keeping costs down.

Vet said pancreatitis. He needs his cuddlecup and laps. We are trying medication recommended by the vet.

Stewart does not act sick - just skinnier, even the vet noticed. Stewart does not like his pills but he is eating at least the soft food. We are keeping an eye on him. He is at least 12 but don't know how much older, we got him when he was - maybe 2? So more like 14 but exact is not possible. He is skinny now, kinda fat before, but just noticeable. The vet tried a second drug, so I guess we need to give that a chance... lucky guy, gets fancy food for a couple more days.

Did the vet think it was an acute case of pancreatitis, or chronic? Hope Stewart feels better soon. :alright:

I didn't get chronic or acute but this is his second diagnosis, the first one was years ago. He eats but then sometimes throws it back up, but only sometimes. He went two days fine, then threw up last night? Now he is sleeping in his cuddle cup. I don't know what his problem is.

Sorry to hear about poor Stewart. Maybe the vet can offer some additional help to get him back to health. Sending good vibes your way. :vibes:

Sorry to hear about Stewart. Push for an ultrasound when you visit the vet as there is normally an underlying problem that causes pancreatitis. My dear boy had many bouts of chronic pancreatitis and the underlying cause turned out to be severe ibd/possible lymphoma. I hope the vets get to the bottom of it and Stewart feels better real soon x
