Can Alois at least go with you to pick up Tiny Blue?

I thought Alyssa was ready for the kittens to go.

That's what Aloïs said. It's really hard to do anything with this whole "friend of a friend of my neighbor" thing. I don't know what to believe. It's just weird. I'll call Aloïs again tomorrow and see what's going on.

This whole saga with Tiny Blue is an exercise in patience , isn't it? I hope things all work out in the end.

I've been using Profender on my lot for the past 7 to 8 years with no bad side effects. I don't think you need to worry about Medley too much.

;)

You were right Norachan Norachan Medley is perfectly fine. I do worry about him more than the others, just because he was so sick for so long. And his eye is getting better every day.

Today I found a tick on Sparrow. I checked and he got just one, and the others don't have any. I don't know why, I thought the Advantage took care of ticks too, but it doesn't. I'm going to go pick up some Revolution (Stronghold here) tomorrow. I got the tick out, and disinfected the area. He didn't like it at all, I had to treat him outside, he wouldn't let me do it inside.

I also got the rescue on the phone, and there was another panleuk outbreak. 2 kittens are hospitalized, one is worse than the other. Just like Leyia and Lays, they were at the vet for 2 weeks before being fostered. I asked, and it's the first year since the rescue operates that something like this happened. So, after Leyia is adopted, they won't let me foster for at least a year. Which means I'm not taking Tiny Blue in. I'm sad about it, but it might be best, I don't want to risk it.

I'm confused. Isn't panaleuk like Parvo? If Leyia doesn't have any symptoms, and never has, then your home is the one safe place for Tiny Blue. At her age, Leyia would have had symptoms by now. She doesn't have a strong enough immune system to fight it by herself.
What is the incubation for Panaleuk? Parvo is 14 days and you've had her much longer than that.

Panleuk is like kitty parvo, yes. Actually, Leyia did survived panleuk, she had symptoms the day I brought her and Lays home. Lays was 15 days old, and she passed the next day. Leyia was 4 weeks old, and was at the vet for a week after that, and she made it. She's the only survivor out of all the kittens rescued with her. They were found in a garden, being raised by multiple momma cats. Some of the mommas died too. And now it's happening again. So my home is not the safest, even though we sanitized as best we could.

Since Tiny was/is the runt of his litter, he's probably the "weakest". I don't want to put him in danger.

OK. It's been so long that I forgot the issues with her. If she had it and was in your home, then the shelter is correct on this one. And so are you.
I didn't realize it was in your home.

This is the commonly accepted waiting period - one year. It's because the virus can live for up to a year. The rescue needs to close for a year too. :(

The "good" news is that the rescue exclusively works with foster homes. They have an office, but there's no cats there. So every foster that had contact with panleuk is out for a year, but we are all working to get the word out that we need more fosters. There's a lot of juggling, but for now it seems to work out, barely.

I worried about the rescue too ! Leyia is such a little fighter isn't she ? Will she be able to go to a forever home with other cats now if she's had that and have to wait a year ?

Is Panaleuk like Parvo? Once an animal has it and survived, then they can't get it again? (well, they can, but it's just a mild tummy ache).
If so, then she should be safe going to a forever home. It's not like it survives in their fur.

Panleuk is like Parvo. I had researched it a bit when we had our panleuk scare... I think it can be shed in their stool for a couple of weeks after they stop showing symptoms... I think she should be fine now though!

From the research, she's shedding the virus in her feces for between 4 and 6 weeks after the first symptoms. After that she's immune for the rest of her life. She can still have relapses and it can take weeks for her to completely be healthy.

Her first symptoms were around July 2nd, so she's good on the shedding front. She did relapse once with fever, vomiting and diarrhea.
I'm being cautious because last night she did vomit (it was just pate food and color was normal), and her poop was not formed, but she didn't have a fever. Today she's fine.

Can you keep her for a few more weeks?

I worry that her future adopters may not be prepared to recognize or deal with any relapses.

I also fear the stress of getting re-homed would cause a setback.

She's doing fantastic, thanks for asking! We had a pretty full week, between family, SO feeling under the weather, and then me, plus we catsitted Amé for 10 days (the neighbor's cat), and we had our own cats to take care of... Medley's eye was beginning to get better, and then the conjunctivitis "spread" to the other eye. I don't know why I didn't treat both eyes at the same time, it seems logic in hindsight. Anyway, treated both eyes, and he's good as new!

Back to Leyia, she's growing so fast! She's still with us for now, and I'm glad because she began to put on more weight, yesterday she was 1.359 Kg (that's almost 3 pounds!). I can barely feel the bones at the base of her tail now.

I send the pics for her adoption page, here are two of them :

And here are two more that we took just for us :

I will post the link to her page if someone is interested.

Yes, we would love to see the link!

Those two pictures cause me to feel she will be heartbroken to leave her friend and your home.

Here it is, the kittens are listed alphabetically, scroll down and click on Leyia's pic to get to her page.

I know, I feel it too. But the rescue made it clear that she were to have a home with other cats, and she's so happy-go-lucky, she made friends with all my cats and Amé in record time.

I really can't keep her. It wouldn't be fair for any of my cats, I wouldn't have enough money to take care of them.
It wouldn't be fair to Leyia either, she deserves her own home, with cats and people that have the means of taking care of her properly.
It wouldn't be fair to my future fosters either. Even though I have to wait a year, I will continue fostering. These kittens need me, and selfishly, I actually really need them too. Losing Lays was bad, and she was with us for a day or two only. But seeing Leyia now, everything she overcame, how sweet and awesome she is, and knowing I had a part in that, it makes me feel like it's something I need to continue doing.

My plan is to get more involved with the rescue while I wait for the "time-out", and then go right back to fostering.
