I recently lost a kitten named Snowshoe, he was only about four months old, however.......we also lost his siblings so clearly we will not be taking in any more cats from those particular people. I can also somewhat blame my partner for Snowshoe at least passing. He had his first bath with us, and dunked his head because he was panicking, I also think my partner was not so smart to bathe him in the tub rather than the sink. Anyways, Snowshoe got an ear infection, that my partner being themself we tried to treat it using natural methods, which did not work. When I finally convinced said partner that Snowshoe DID need to go to the vet the ear infection had progressed so much that it had burst his ear drum. Snowshoe did well for a bit, on antibiotics then because my partner thought the infection was gone we stopped using them, again Snowshoe was doing okay for a bit. But he took a turn for the worse, started having seizures, gums got pale, not eating much. So I took him back in, he was severely anemic, so me being a well meaning pet mommy followed the advice the vet gave me to feed him chicken livers to try to enrich his blood, put him on some Kitten replacement milk, and basically did whatever I could think of to do, but he ended up having a series of seizures that he did not survive. I kept his tag. He was supposed to get the last of his kitten shots this past friday........only a week after he had last seen the vet.

All in all we were able to give him two more months of life with us and he was very much loved. SO he was probably closer to five months old.....still far too young to be lost in such a traumatic way. The last thing I did with him was finger feed him some of the chicken liver and wash it down with the kitten replacement milk, but that night he had seizures and even though he tried so hard to fight through them his little body just couldn't handle it.

You and your partner did what you thought was good for the kitty. Some cats may be particularly sensible to infections etc. (in my opinion) like humans. Or kitty was suffering from something else while everybody looked to ear infection, who knows.

Tears and hugs!

My heart goes out to you, it is so hard to lose the young. You tried and did did what you could to save him, my heart cries that it was not enough. Bad things happen to good people, through no fault of their own, but I know one thing for sure, little Snowshoe would never want sadness or tears to invade your hearts, because he wants nothing but happiness for the ones he loves so much. He is a beautiful part of your past now, try not to dwell on the end but celebrate what you shared while he was in your life. He only wants the best as you would want for him if you were the first to go. The bond you developed will always tie you together, his new path will always parallel yours until it crosses once more.
I'm so sorry you have to go through this, I know the pain well. Time is the only thing that helps, it softens the edges of grief and helps you build a new life's path. Keep busy and honor that boy's name by sharing the love he left you as his legacy, take care........RIP precious Snowshoe. You will be never forgotten, and held for eternity in a loving heart. Let the light from your new star shine down on those who miss you so very much. Goodnight, sleep tight, little Prince!

Snowshoe was a very special little boy that's for sure. One of his best friends was our pit lab mix, until she nearly rolled over onto him and I had to save him. They were sleeping together at the time. Winter Warlord still on occasion looks for him, they were so close but I did make sure the cats got to see and smell his body when he left us. Another of his more unusual friends was one of our pet rats Hood. It was so funny his first vet visit, Hood had gotten injured by one of the other males and needed to go in, Snowshoe was having his battle with the ear infection but when the vet was examining Hood Snowshoe wanted to be with his buddy so she ended up with them both in her lap. I wish I could have gotten a picture of it. But the look on the vets face was just priceless. No aggression or anything he and Hood just snuggled and were so content to be together. That memory came so vividly into my head that I just had to share it.
