Kitten Has Slightly Gooky Eyes.

My youngest baby Cream Latte is three weeks old and has a minor issue with her eyes getting caked shut with eye goo, I have been cleaning them with some mild saline and that's been working so far. Her siblings don't have this problem but I worry about her because she was last born in her litter and actually was born not breathing but my partner resuscitated her twice and she's doing great now except for the eyes, I don't have any pictures of it but I can try, keep in mind all I will have to take pictures with is my laptop which doesn't have the greatest camera. I can also include pics of the mum and siblings too. The firstborn is the only male and is called Master Summer mostly because he was born in the summer, and their father is named Winter Warlord. Shiva the secondborn looks a lot like their mother but her nose is flatish, but they're at the stage where their eyes are open and they are interacting more with their world. Silverheart the mum actually had them on my partners lap since she did need a little bit of help as it is her first litter. Probably won't be her last but before all you people start sending me links on why spaying and neutering is best I know. But Silverheart and Warlord are not my cats to make that choice for. Cream Latte WILL be spayed when she is old enough regardless of what my partner thinks. You need a tube of terramycin to treat the eyes. It's an antibiotic eye ointment used 2x per day for 5-7 days to clear eye infections.

You can get it from a tractor supply store, a vet, or online.

In the meantime, continue to clean the eyes with saline. Don't let them stay glued shut.

Okay, that's what I thought based off of what I've been reading here. She may yell about getting her eyes cleaned but it's for her own good. Would an animal feed store have it? Such as the place we go to get horse food, or the one we go to get rabbit food (both the same type of store) right now that would be easiest since I do have to go into town in the morning for more animal food.

Yes, my town feed store carries the eye ointment but it's hidden behind the counter so it doesn't get stolen, so people have to know what they want and ask for it.

I will do so in the morning then, Shiva is not pleased to be in their nesting box and is currently demanding holding. Mommy is taking a short break since she has me to help with the babies. I usually supplement during the warmest parts of the day so Mommy being long haired can go and cool off.

I just wish my partner would let me get the last few cats on the property spayed and neutered. Silverheart is a great mommy yes, but we don't really need more cats, especially since the two other females that are unspayed are also unfortunately pregnant. There is one other unneutered male on the property but he is going to be a challange since the tenants that have him didn't give him any socialization to any human but them and from when he was eight weeks old until he was about a year old he had no contacts with any other cats. Crystal......I just wish I could have gotten her to the vet before she got pregnant. My partner refuses to allow her litter to be aborted but I worry so much because due to Crystals kittenhood before they got her she has epilepsy and panic attacks plus was malnourished as a kitten. The low cost spay and neuter wouldn't spay her when they took her to them but that was when she was around six months old. I've only been here since October and I just want to shake my partner sometimes and get into that thick scull that the cats ALL need to be fixed.

Can you have them spayed without talking to him first? It's awful for them to have litter after litter, especially your unwell cat.

In addition, they can get pregnant again within a week of delivery, so the moms really need to be kept completely separate from the intact males.

Crystal will for sure be getting spayed I managed to argue enough to achieve that. Still working on arguing for the others. Wish me luck. Also managed to get an agreement on one of the intact males.

Is there a reason that you can't just take them for the spays/neuters?

And can you keep the females away from the males until you can get them fixed?

I don't have my own transportation, but they are sequestered, per me demanding it be so so that was progress. I could always be very mean and withdraw my monetary support until they agree since I'm pretty much keeping this place afloat single handedly.

Also wondering how much extra I should be feeding Silverheart and the two pregnant queens? The cats in general have a large bowl of free feed dry food which I recently upgraded to blue buffalo after quite a bit of research, currently they are getting free fed plus a can of wet food each for the pregnant ones, highest quality I can get them to eat, and Silverheart gets two cans per day. Is that too much....too little? Is there anything else I can currently do to keep everyone as healthy as possible?

Sorry for all the updates but great news. ALL non fixed cats are going to be spayed or neutered. So that's a huge relief for me, also how soon can I get Silverheart spayed without affecting her milk production, she's starting to show signs of going into heat and she doesn't need two litters so close together.

How old are Silverheart's kittens?

I usually recommend moms be spayed when the kittens are 8 weeks, but it can be done when they are 6 weeks if they are weaning to solids. Mom will still be able to nurse.

Should she mate prior to spaying the very early pregnancy would be terminated during the surgery.

Pregnant and nursing cats should have 3-4 servings of wet food per day, as should kittens.

Thank goodness you've convinced your partner to let you spay and neuter them all so this cycle can end. If it took the power of money, so be it. It's reality!

Also, go ahead and pick up powdered kitten formula, bottle, and syringes in case you need to supplement any kittens. Always best to be prepared. Unflavored pedialyte and honey on hand help too.

I've been supplementing the current three week old kittens daily, but I should pick up more formula. We have honey so all I'll need to get is some pedialyte and the ointment here in a little bit.

There we go, supplies have been restocked, mothers have been offered more wet food, babies have been given their feeding, and I have a migraine, so I'm going to rest for a bit until it comes time to give the mother and mothers to be their next can of food and offer the babies an extra feeding. But the kitties are happy which is all that matters well...maybe not Cream Latte since she got her first eye ointmenting and is still mad about it.
