Hi all,

I rescued a little year old half coon (maybe full?) male in January, such a little love bug, and very demanding of attention, so I went and adopted him a friend! A male as well, a muscular 2 year old mackerel tabby. Beautiful animal. A bit shy, I believe he suffered some trauma along the way. He's just starting to relax when I walk around in my shoes. He FREAKS out whenever I put on my Boston Bruins jersey...I think maybe his tormentor wore a Bruins jersey!

Anyway, the two cats hit it off right away, the mackerel even tried to lick the little guy within the first minute.

The spar non stop. Reggie the coon usually starts it, and I've been a little concerned, but I think Mack enjoys it. I've seen them cuddle together once or twice, and Mack gave Reggie a long tongue bath last week. He's a very sweet natured cat.

Now about Reggie...total diva (o?). Chirps and squawks and whines day and night. The chirps i'm fine with. The squawking and whining are really annoying. It wakes me up at night. I thought a friend would relax him, but it's actually gotten worse.

When he's calm, he's the sweetest, most affectionate cat I've ever had, he also LOVES to jump around and play, super confident and social cat, a real superstar. But his neurotic behavior is a problem, I can't sugar coat it.

Pics to come!

How strange! You may have to try a Patriots jersey. :lol3:

Welcome to the both of you from sunny Florida!

He's very handsome!! It's always nice to have more cat dads on the forum. Men who love cats are THE BEST!!

He's clearly not a hockey fan.

Aw, loved reading your intro.  Welcome!  I am in New England, specifically northeastern Mass.

So Reggie is the orangie, and Mac is the mackerel tabby.  They are quite handsome!  And you may need to give that tail of Reggie's a name all of its own, lol, it is huge!  And fluffy and wonderful lol.

Does Reggie make these sounds all the time, or only at night?  Is he allowed in your bedroom, or is the door closed? Maybe he wants in the bedroom to be on the bed with you?  Or maybe you do need to close the door to keep him out?   Is he demanding attention, food, or trying to get Mac to play?  Is food available overnight?  He is a bit smaller, so I'm wondering if he gets hungry sooner.  Those are just a few things for you to consider, to see if you can sort out what he is doing, and why he is making such a racket!  LOL

Reggie makes the sounds anytime he's up walking around. He's allowed everywhere, including tables, counters, etc. I put a 1/4 cup of dry in their bowls before bed, but they usually eat it all within an hour. He's actually longer than Mack now, but quite narrow. His poops aren't the firmest, so I brought a sample to the vet, and it came back clear, but they wanted to run another test for $50..."Act now or the price will go up to $100"

I don't like sales tactics at the vet!

They couldn't find anything that could make his tummy hurt, so IDK...

He'll whine after eating, after cuddling, after playing...basically if I'm not engaging with him, I'll soon be notified of that fact.

He's an awesome cat, very smart, and super intuitive as to my verbal intentions. I'll say "Go in the next room and get that yellow mouse toy" AND HE WILL!! So weird and cool.

I'm learning about all the things that make him a Coon- very vocal (maybe that's my answer, he's a Coon), long coat that's oily down the back, weird eyes, a mane type thing, tufts between his toes, and he's not afraid of water. When I start the shower, he'll walk in! (He'll avoid the jet, but seems to enjoy a bit of splash and spray). He also enjoys an ice cube rub.

I can't give him up, but the whining is ridiculous.

I've never had Tabby's before, so having two is double terrific. Mack's big yellow/green eyes are amazing. They're usually always pretty closed, his big puffy cheeks doing most of that work...but when he looks up at the ceiling, you really see his handsomeness. He has three little freckles on his nose, so cute.

Reggie is still a baby as far as Maine Coons are concerned, he won't stop growing until he is 4 years old and get a big ruff and more hair. Be sure to comb or brush him backwards every few days to make sure all the loose hair comes off, you'd be surprised how much hair comes off and he looks no different. I have a 10 year old and he also needs to be brushed backwards or he will literally drop clumps of hair all over the place, usually at night. Mine is quiet at night but he romps all over playing with whatever he can find, usually a pink mouse from his toy box which I can find anywhere including the bathroom as he knows how to open doors, I have latches instead of knobs.
Since Reggie is still a baby you have to make allowances for his behavior but you also will have to train him not to go places where he is not allowed (kitchen counters, dining tables, garbage cans etc) and where he is not allowed to scratch (arms and backs of sofas and chairs are a favorite). Otherwise the cat is going to run the household instead of you. The picture is of mine, his name is Chamouti which is Arabic for a particular orange tree that grows in the Middle East.

Handsome little guy!

I allow both cats to go anywhere, and it's Reggie who makes the most of it, but I don't have a problem with it. It's his whining that is doing my head in. Nice name for your cat, BTW.
