Yes, thanks, I have seen it done. Dushka is a very quiet cat and good to medicate and feed, so I am sure I could do it by myself. And I am used to giving Wellington his insulin. I will ask the vet tomorrow. But she is taking lots of fluid by syringe. LAst night she had 20ml of catfood soup and kept it down all night. I have given her 40ml this morning, and left her washing her face on my bed - a good sign as she has not been grooming herself much. I shall continue to give liquid food during the day, every couple of hours. She is peeing but has not done a poo for at least 24 hours - but it could just be that there is no food in her gut.
All of that sounds good, let us know what the vet says. 100ml's of fluid sub q is common.  One just needs a good setup and a little practice.  We hung our bag from a pipe in the kitchen over the kitchen island and would place simon in a carrier.  He just sat there and let me do the whole thing.  You just need to practice getting the flow, keeping everything sterile, inserting the needle and keeping it there while managing the flow.  A couple tries and you're a pro.  Go to youtube.com and search on giving sub q fluids to cats there are tons of videos.

Just got back from leaving her at the vet for the day. I had a brief chat with the vet about the weekend, and we will have a more in-depth talk when I go back tonight. She still hasn't done a poo, which is a bit worrying. But they will check for everything.

Hello Jenny, I wanted to tell you I said a little prayer for you and your sweet Dushka. I wanted to tell you when I took Romeo to the Vet and they gave him fluids how much better he felt plus it helped some with his appetite and it would make him fell better. I thought I couldn't do the sub q fluids but I did. I thought at first I couldn't do this but I would have done anything to have a extra day with Romeo,. It's not fair with this disease because they don't understand what's wrong with them and why they feel so bad,. Romeo got very anemic and I had to give him Epogen injections but it didn't help. Just take one day at a time spend every moment that you can kiss and love that sweet sweet face. Know this thread is praying for you and Dushka. If you decide to do sub q fluids try Teremo needles they help with easy application of fluids plus less pain for your baby. I learned this from MrsGreenJeens. She and few others helped me alot. I also watched U-tube videos to see how to give fluids. Again you are in my thoughts and prayers.[emoji]128062[/emoji]

The vet just called me. One of her kidneys has failed completely, and is leaking fluid into her body. The other is OK for the moment. The stones that we found in January have not moved, so is not blocked. They are going to keep her in the hospital for another two days on an infusion and while they monitor her and decide what if anything to do. They can find nothing wrong with her digestive system, the vet thinks not pooing is just the result of not eating. So it is not good news, but not the worst.

Here is a picture of Dushka in better times. Her name means 'Little female spirit' in Bosnian

Jenny,

I will continue to pray and send healing thoughts her way. When I though my Kirsten was failing due to kidney failure she lived for another 16 months.
Your girl is quite the fighter!!!

Hugs,

Mia

I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that your sweet beautiful girl is able to come home with you soon.

Take care of yourself too.  I know it's easier said than done, but when she does come home you'll be that much stronger to take care of her.

Much love and big hugs to you both

I hope you have many, many more days with her Jenny. It's so hard to see them decline, but you're on top of things and she's getting the best care and is obviously a fighter.

May your "little female spirit", Dushka, improve steadily while at the vets.

Hoping that the i.v. drip flushes out the toxins from her body, allowing her to feel better, to kickstart her eating again.

Well, I have been to see her this morning, and if ever a sick cat could have jumped for joy, it was her. She began kneading and purring the second she saw me and tried to crawl under my arm as I stood at her cage. But she is much better. She has eaten a sachet of wet food and a bowl of dry and began on another bowl of croquettes while I was there. Her eyes are still sunken and a bit weepy but not as red as they were. You can also all do the poop dance, as she has used the box! I did not see the vet but had a chat with the nurse, who did tell me that subQ fluids could be done at home, if the vet thought it a suitable treatment. So we will see if that becomes an option. They are going to keep her at least two more nights, and I shall visit again tomorrow. All in all, positive, though of course there is no actual cure, it is only a question of management for as long as she is happy and comfortable.
