Really play depends on the individual. Indy was born feral to a feral mom but she is crazy about toys she has more energy than my mom's dog.

Hi Everyone,

So Vet visit went well, Thermose is Female, about 2 years old, tattooed and not pregnant, thank goodness (she was just overweight and has lost weight recently). Got her vaccinations and dewormer, so a fresh start. Because Thermose is "overweight" I bought the food the clinic recommended and she is slowly adjusting to the new food.  No Microchip either, I thought she might have been stolen then abandoned only because I have a missing Cat flyer on one of my sites that Thermose looked similar too.

I like the Vet office I selected, but if anyone has things to look out for when choosing a provider the advice would be great. The food I bought while expensive has a return policy, if it doesn't work out. It's Hill's Prescription Diet.  When I say expensive I mean in comparison to the Dollarama food I was buying (and Thermose seems to prefer).

Other than that everything seems normal.

So glad all went well at the vet visit.  Also wonderful that she is spayed!!!

I am not a huge fan of prescription pet food.  I think portion control is a much better way for a cat to lose weight.  Did the vet give you or administer a dewormer? Cats can often be or look plump when they are full of worms.

You can try the prescription food, but there is much better weight control food available at pet stores.  Vets love to sell prescription food since they make money off it.

I have successfully had my cats lose weight by giving less.  Dry food is high in calories and really not needed for cats.  Wet food is so much better.  I feed my cats, 1/4 of a 5.5 oz can of wet food in the morning along with 1/2 T of Blue Buffalo weight management.  I then do the same at their evening meal.  My cats are all 10 lbs and under.

How much did Thermose weigh?

Yes canned food is the trick. I've had a lot of luck with non prescription canned food.

Just look for a food that does not have "meat product meat byproduct etc" in it. Low quality foods will have this and you never know what meat is in it.

If you have pet valu nearby Performatrin makes an affordable grain free canned food. As a plus they often have sales on this food.

Also I would stay away from dollar store food. You never know what is in that stuff.

I agree with shadowsrescue shadowsrescue and IndyJones IndyJones , prescription food is not necessary. As mentioned before, vets make money off "prescription" diets and you can find plenty of good food at pets stores and supermarkets.
I was feeding my cat food prescribed by my vet. She put on a lot of weight from the food. I decided I did some research, put her on a canned diet and she naturally slimmed down.

This website is an excellent resource for cat nutrition tips:

I have to forewarn you there is a lot of information but there is a link to a PDF of a "shortened" version on the website [emoji]128522[/emoji]

Oh I forgot to mention: once you find a food both you and Thermose like, you can save money by order through Amazon or Chewy.com. Prices are usually less expensive and you can typically get free shipping if you spend their required dollar amount.
I do an order every 6-8 weeks from Chewy. I order all my cat related supplies to last me that long so I can reach their $49 free shipping threshold. I order all the food, litter, toys etc. and everything arrives in one to two days!

Great to hear that all is well with her.

Is she spayed? I read again from the 1st thread to the last but could not see anywhere mentioned that she is spayed. Did I missed that sentence?

Chewy will not ship outside the United States.

Hi,

I kind of figured the Vet suggestion of Prescription Food was an upsell.  I will keep tinkering with food choices.  I have started portion control, I do a cup a day and there's always food in the bowl.  She doesn't seem to eat much.

She weighed 4.1 Kilos, and the Vet wanted her around 3.7.  So not really that far off.

Yes got dewormer done.
