So my cat's sickness started 3 weeks ago, he has been ill before but it was different. ( my thread vomit every way). Multi cat house all inside since October. No one else sick but a few soft bowel movement from others.
Heavy drooly mouth breathing dry nose,
Weak weight loss is eating and drinking but not enough. Vet called it herpes / caused uri,
Waited at vet suggestion tried other food and lysine he won't touch food with it & anti inflammatories End up taking antibiotics anyhow acouple of days later and they helped but worried they weren't going to help in time took him back for sud q fluids and more of an exam. Fliuds seem to help him rally and by end of antibiotics he was breathing normally. Eyes have not stopped running but it is clear but he is clearly still sick. And breathing is weezy again and the smell is back, Not sure where to start next fip dry kind?
How long do I let him trail down hill I can't tell if he hurts.,, he is only two and very sweet.
The cat I love best always seems to be the one I loss.

This doesn't sound at all like FIP, but a bad URI.  Steam baths, non-medicated saline drops i the nose 2-3 times a day plus antibiotics and very smelly food to help convince him to eat.

Have tried putting him in the room with showers, think he might skin me when I try saline if ten days did not cure it entirely 21?
I think the mouth breathing is causing the bad breath . Going back to vet today. He is eating small frequent meals of his favourite wet foods.

The sinus infection could be causing the bad breath. What did the vet say?

Rudy is felv positive, the vet says he not in pain but he has lost more weight & still has a fever. I don't know what to think, I have 5 other cats without vaccinations ( one with) which I know is a stupid position to be in . I am now faced with figuring this out. I am trying one more round of antibiotics different from the last if they make him comfortable or not and I will test one or two of the kittens it reads like a flow chart in my head. And I am sad.

Rudy is still hanging on. The uri is responding to the antibiotics, but I wonder if it will just come back when it's done.
He got really week and was still losing weight, before he started the second round. I had to I smeer his gums with honey and force feed him a meal on Friday but his appite has been better so I am trying to fatten him up.

So I was back to the vet, with ? About the t-Cyte injections for autoimmune diseases in cats. And it is not available in Canada so that is not an option even if we could travel over the boarder I don't have acurrent pasport and he doesn't have the 6 weeks to get it.
Still losing weight with a kidney that she thinks is swollen but coud be so prominent because he is thin I guess we are in palliative car mode until he is sick enough it doesn't feel like it's wrong .

FeLV positive and not eating. This is challenging. Can you syringe-feed Rudy? Get some pate wet cat food and dilute it with pedialyte or water to make it soupy enough to get through the syringe.

You could even dilute the food with goats milk or kitten formula to add more calories for him

I don't have any experience with FeLV, but many members have been through this

Thanks for the thoughts I had tried force (a/ d) feeding for awhile back with the second round of antibiotics. He hated it and fought more got in my hair than his stomach, I think it became hard to swallow. He finally looked at me with such an look of helplessness and misery and he had spent every minute he could on some ones lap. There was nothing more for me to do but cuddled him for ever moment possible so he spent Thursday and Friday on me every free moment and Saturday my daughter came home from university and we took him in and held him thur the end.
He was much loved and is missed even with 6 other furry folks here.
this is Rudy with his friend Charlotte ( age six weight 18 lbs she would clean and cuddle him when he was a tiny guy) here he is had lost half his wieght already 12 down to 7 lbs.
Goodbye sweet boy.

I cry with you, it is so hard to say goodbye to such a sweet, precious boy. I'm sure he thanks you for such a wonderful life and all the love and happiness he had in that life. He found you for a reason, and shared your life's journey for a little while. That he had someone like you to care for him at the end is priceless, he needed you and you were there to comfort and love.  The bond you formed will be with you always, love is spiritual and therefore eternal. try to celebrate knowing that sweet boy, you are blessed to have had him in your life. It hurts so very much to have them go, but the pain would be greater to have them suffer one more day then necessary. You took on his pain and released him from his, for that you will be blessed. Please know we share your pain, I'll pray for you and all your furry little ones, take care of each other.......RIP dear Rudy, you will always be remembered as a dear sweet boy, you will always be securely held in a loving heart. Please send what comfort you can to those you left behind, sleep tight little Prince!

I'm sorry you've lost Rudy. It sounds like he was much loved, and he was a lucky cat to have known that. Rest in Peace, little one. :rbheart:

This thread will now be closed out of respect, as per TCS policy when a cat has passed away. If you feel up to it, you might consider posting a tribute to Rudy at the Crossing The Bridge forum.
