Hi everyone! I'd like to introduce myself and Caoimhe, my 14 week old. She was rescued in extremely cold weather with her mom and two sibs. I had just recently lost my 22 year old, and my son decided I needed another cat. She's definitely a handful, but so much fun! I just discovered this website, and am enjoying seeing all your beautiful kitties and hearing your stories. So nice to meet you all!

Maidin mhaith, Caoimhe (and Monster Mousie, of course); welcome to TCS.  Your little girl certainly has an abundance of Maine Coon Cat genetics - what a gorgeous kitty she is.

Dia dhuit and thank you for the warm welcome! She is a cutie, and very smart. She likes to hide her toys in one of my slippers, and could play "fetch" happily for hours. She's pretty tiny right now, so I'm curious to see if she grows into her paws and ears!

:wavey::wavey: Hi! Welcome to the group. I'm new too but am really glad I found this site. Aren't cats so great with all that they bring to our lives. Glad your son thought you needed another one! :rbheart:

Thank you! I was really mourning my sweet Sophie (you can never really be prepared for that, can you?) and wasn't sure I even wanted another one. But I'm so glad now that he got her for me! She has definitely filled the void that Sophie left, even though I will never stop missing her. Cats are really so special!

Welcome to the site. I'm also new to the site and just happened to stumble across it. I'm so glad I did. I recently lost my 16 yr old to cancer and I know how you feel. It's a void you can't describe. I'll never replace him but I'm taking my time and looking for another companion. The house is just to quiet without Tama around. Looks like you found a winner! She's gonna be gorgeous when she get's bigger! Best of luck and keep us updated!

I'll be certain to do that. And welcome to you also! Cancer took Sophie also; I'm so sorry for your loss. They can never be replaced, we can only remember them and be grateful for the time we had with them. But you'll find another one to share your life with!

Welcome, @Monster Mousie, @sabian, and @Alexis Keefe.  We're very glad to have all of you here.

@Monster Mousie, how is Caoimhe's name pronounced, please?  Many of us are less multi-lingual than @1CatOverTheLine, and it helps to be able to hear it in your head when you read it.

Those of you who have recently lost your long term companion animals, our hearts go out to you.  At some point, you may wish to post a memorial thread in the Crossing the bridge forum.  Only if you want, and only when you feel ready to do so.  Many people find that it helps them to deal with the loss.

Also, you should be aware that everyone on this site knows what it's like to lose a cat, at whatever age, and for whatever reason.  We will never tell you things like "It was just a cat!" or "It's been too long.  Get over it already!"; we know that cats are family members and we all grieve in our own way.  If you need shoulders to cry on, we're here for you.

She's already getting so Big, I can't believe I've only had her a month! Her name is pronounced "Keeva" phonetically. It's old Irish/Gaelic. I'll post a pic of when I got her. And thank you all for the welcomes from both of us!

Margrethe, thank you for the suggestion about the memorial thread. I think I'd like to tell you all about Sophie. Losing her has been difficult, and I'd like to share her a little with people who will understand that.

Haha, she kinda reminds me of a werewolf in that pic with her markings. She's a cutie and she's gonna be gorgeous when she gets bigger!

And don't doubt for a minute that she knows it, too!

Jasmine is almost 6, and appears to have some Maine Coon Cat in her recent gene pool.  She fancies herself to be an escape artist, and longs for a chance to get into the basement and the sewing room, largely because they're off-limits so there must be something really fun in there!

Her original human was forced to give Jasmine up when the woman's granddaughter developed an allergy to cats -- with that long, fluffy fur Jasmine is a potent source of allergens.  We happened to be between cats after some house guests had turned our 13-year-old Floppy from an indoor only cat into an indoor-outdoor cat (without our permission, needless to say).  At the time, the news shows were reporting that coyotes in our neighborhood were actually jumping privacy fences to get into back yards and snatch small pets.  One day Floppy just didn't come home.  We asked the neighbors, checked the shelters, and I wandered the neighborhood calling for her, but we couldn't find her, and those particular guests will never be welcome in my house again.

Fortunately for us, when Jasmine's original human discovered that she had to give Jasmine up, she went to a friend in my computer club who has two cats of his own and was willing to take in a third cat temporarily, while he searched for someone who needed a cat, and we needed a cat.  When you're ready, somehow a cat always shows up.

I was gonna say she had a lot of Maine Coon in her. I looked at your profile and she looks like she has a little size on her. Could also be some Norwegian Forest Cat in her. They look about the same to me. I think Forest Cats are a little smaller with shorter stockier body's. Maine Coons tend to be longer and a little heavier. Sorry to hear about your Floppy. I don't know what's wrong with some peoples heads! What were they thinking!? We've had a recent explosion of Coyote's in my area. Tama, my cat that recently passed was indoor outdoor but mostly indoor in recent years. He never went out of the yard and I was either out with him or watching him like a hawk! My next cats will be indoor only. I'm kinda leaving it up to fate where my next cat will come from!

They weren't thinking at all.

There's a whole (small) thread about them, here: http://www.thecatsite.com/t/315773/my-houseguests-from-hell#post_3957753
