ENTRY    A cat is believed magical and the bringer of good luck in India. One belief is if you kill a cat,  you have to offer a cat in gold to a priest.

I was lucky because my cat Mingo had worms. Worms are lucky you say? Yes, because the day I took a stool sample into the vet's, there was a cat in a cage waiting to be adopted. She was beautiful, and her name was Lily Potter. I had been musing for weeks that if I had a female cat, I would like to name her Lily. It was karma. She was so pretty, white toes, a blaze up the forehead, a white bib. I just had to adopt her, so I filled out the paper work and picked her up a few days later. I love her - she's the lap cat I've always wanted, a sweet and gentle little lady. And I would have missed her altogether if Mingo hadn't had worms.

BOOBOO
Booboo was a baby he was born inside a boat, he had three baby brothers and they were set afloat.
Msmamakat was swimming one bright and beautiful day when she heard a winsome cry and she swim over that way,...
she swim up to the boat she saw 4 pretty kittens and Booboo jumped right up to show her his mittens.
Msmamakat said what fine little kittens I think that take them to my cat house way at the end of the road, so she put them in her basket and down the road she strode.
She told Booboo he was lucky and kissed him on his nose and she said, you will like the place that we will go,
The grass is real green and life is real sweet with love and joy and warm bowls of cream.
Booboo said this must be a dream, I'm lucky, could I please just taste a little more of that cream?
And after  bath and a  warm blow dry Booboo and his brothers got in  bed and went Nye nye.

Entry.

Cats and Luck.  (Each of my entries is a short chronological history of how my cats arrived).  I had 3 cats and everything was going well.  One evening I went to the local PetCo to pick up something.  When I came out, there was a woman standing at a car with a teeny tiny kitten on the hood.  And orangie!  I had to go over and say hello.  I learned her husband was inside buying a flea comb and other supplies.  She said a stray in the area had kittens, and had no abandoned them.  She had placed the other 3 and finally caught this one earlier that evening.  He was covered in fleas, he had ear and eye infections and a snotty nose.

By now you likely know, he came home with me, lol.  She had named him Chestnut, and I liked that name.  She and her husband gave me all the supplies he had just purchased for the baby.  Once home, I bathed him in a pot in the kitchen sink - that's how tiny he was!  Over and over, soap up and rinse, trying to get as many fleas off as possible.  Next he ate - or I should say gobbled up - 2 of the 3 ounce size cans of kitten food; I fed him on the counter next to my Mr. Coffee maker.  I wrapped him up in a blanket and put him on the sofa in a pet donut bed; and he slept for an hour.  During this time each of the other 3 - Mr. Amber Cat, Sparkle, and Vita - came over to sniff him.

Next morning I had him at my vet office when they opened - no appointment.  And my vet was so obliging, he said the wee one needed help.  He estimated the age at 5 weeks, and said often the stray female will be pregnant again, and have the next litter coming.  To give the first litter a chance at survival she will drop each of the kittens in a different spot in the area.  Chestnut got a shot which took care of the fleas (I think they have stopped using that, now, but at the time it was available and it worked fast), and I went home with ear and eye meds along with an oral med for his sinus infection.  I packed up a few supplies and off we went to work.  I had a 12 inch aluminum pie plate which I took for holding litter for him; a small baggie of litter; custard cups for food and water; canned food, and all those meds.  And a blanket.  It all fit in a carrier, along with this wee baby.  Once at work, I set things up under my desk, and let him snuggle in my lap in the blanket.  When I had to leave for meetings etc. he stayed in his crate.  No one realized I had him in my office till almost 2 PM!  After that, we had a constant stream of visitors, and I got no work done the rest of that afternoon.

Chestnut lived with me 18 years.  Although we never saw the couple from PetCo parking lot again, Chestnut routinely sent them a letter with photos; and I always received a phone call back.

He is the orangie in Santa's lap, wearing the big green sequin bow.

My family is so lucky
to have Callie in our lives.  She is my little baby.
(And when I say she's a baby, I really mean it.  Callie is a full-grown adult at only 7 pounds with an disproportionally tiny head, and whines like nobody's business!)

We were not looking to adopt a second feline into our family when we found Callie.  We already had Coco, who is a very anxious cat and had some extremely stressful experiences living with other cats (before she came to live with us).  But we stopped by the Petco store near my parents' house (not the store we typically frequent!), and it was love at first meow.  Callie and I made eye contact from several feet away and she called out to me.  From that moment, our fate was sealed.

We were so lucky
to have stopped into that particular store that day, and that no one had taken her home during the 2-3 weeks she'd been there (still not sure how she was there so long, given how cute she is!).  Callie has provided me with so much love and support through some really difficult times this past year.  I am truly lucky
to have her in my life.

And Coco, while wary at first, warmed up to Callie quite quickly.  I believe Coco also feels lucky
that we found Callie.  She now has a best friend (and partner in crime) to keep her company while my husband and I are at work.

Finally, an interesting fact... calico kitties are considered lucky
in Japanese culture.  According to Wikipedia, "[white] cats are seen to bring about the happiness of its owner, along with purity, and positive energy.  The luckiest of all the colors is considered to be the calico colored cat; black is meant to lure away evil spirits, and gold for monetary good fortune." I'm one of those people that said I would never have a cat in my house....hah! I was on my way down to the chicken coop one morning to let my girls out and I heard a kitten in the trees, didn't think much of it as there are several feral cats in the area. I kept hearing it over the next couple of days and started thinking it sounded distressed. We spotted it a few times in the grove as it was white and stood out...could see he was quite small and figured he'd been deserted. Hubby and I tried catching him but he was quick...eventually success, hubby caught him! He hissed once and started purring[emoji]128522[/emoji]This is his first picture.
View media item 411343View media item 411346I put him in the chicken coop as I didn't want a cat in my house[emoji]128580[/emoji]
View media item 411345I sent this picture to my sister who loves cats and has 2 of her own. My dog Bear hates cats and my sister says he's going to kill him...guilt...so in the house he comes. I put him in the bathroom after getting cat litter, etc. Potty training wasn't going so well so back out to the coop he went. That lasted about 2 days as same sister guilted me and said give him another chance. I moved his litter box away from his food and problem solved....who knew cats don't like their food by their litter box! If I'd known about the catsite I would have had that knowledge[emoji]128522[/emoji]A trip to the vet to take care of bad mites and worms and he's a whole new kitten.
View media item 411347I got to thinking "Spuds" needed a buddy to play with...husband said no and a minute later said ok[emoji]128522[/emoji]I looked into humane society kittens about the same age as Spuds and there was one lone kitty available the next day...same age. I fell in love with him on site and now enters Opie. It was not love at first sight for Spuds! He did not want to share his toys....

View media item 411359I'm not sure why Spuds ended up in our grove...we had an empty nest going on as our youngest son went off to college...Spuds filled that spot! When my son came home from school and saw we had a kitten I told him it was his fault for ditching us and going to school[emoji]128522[/emoji]The next time he came home we had Opie and his response was "you got another cat"?
The cats are best buds now and have provided lots of entertainment. I guess we were lucky [emoji]127808[/emoji]to have found Spuds in the grove and he is lucky to have his bud Opie...can't imagine life without them now!

...ancient Egyptian society was even better.  Anyone harming any cat forfeited his or her life, as was just.  Should be the law again, globally.  There'd be far fewer cruel criminals taking up space and causing suffering to the innocent and those of us who love them!

I was working at Disneyland at the time. Days of the week, holidays, daytime, nighttime, none of them have any real meaning when you work almost any day or time. One day I would work from 6am to 2pm the next 5pm to midnight. I didn't have a Christmas off in five years and got the joy of being threatened (while the guy with me was punched) on Fourth of July over firework crowds. Because of that I didn't notice that is was a holiday when I decided to drop off some cat food my sisters cat didn't like.

When I got to the shelter there was a sign saying "CLOSED FOR THE HOLIDAYS" on the door. This shelter had a nice set-up for after hour abandoned pets with different size doors that could be opened so the animal was in a controlled environment cage and shelter staff could collect them without coming outside.  I turned to leave a noticed a small box sitting outside the pet drop doors.  In that box were two tiny kittens, one not moving and the other crying weakly. Whoever had left them had put some food in a paper bowl and the kittens had eaten the edges of the bowl after the food was gone. No blankets or towels were with them and the box was on the cold concrete. They must have been there overnight and the little black one was surely dead between the food and the cold.

I picked up the box and my Mom touched the black one with her finger. He didn't move at all. She took him out crying at the poor little life snuffed out too soon..... but he moved ever so slightly. We rushed to the car with the two kittens. We hurried to the nearest store and bought a small pet bottle and bottle of water (they didn't have KMR). My Mom started dripping water into the little black ones mouth and then the grey tabby who was more active. Then we went to the pet store that was further away and got some KMR. I still remember sitting in the parking lot mixing powder in that little bottle and the joy of seeing the little black one start to drink on his own.

That night my Mom stayed up late with the little black one wrapped up in a towel and the grey tabby wobbling around on the floor. The next day both kittens were doing much better with full bellys. So both kittens got a bath and the water ran black and red with the fleas and flea dust that came off. It took four rinsings until the water ran clean on the little black one. This is them right after that bath as they dried in the sun.

We ended up rehoming the grey tabby but the little black one stayed. He didn't have a name for almost four months because my Mom kept claiming she would rehome him too so why name him.

Now Nightfury is a happy 4 year old who still loves to cuddle up with his Mom. He was very lucky that day that I forgot it was a holiday and that we got there when we did.

Love that story!
