Kitten suddenly acting afraid?

Hi there!

I recently officially adopted a formally "feral" kitten that lived in a colony in my yard.  I have been feeding her since last spring, when she was very small (maybe 4 months old?), and she bonded with me and my boyfriend and has displayed normal, non-feral tendencies since we found her.  She has always let us pet her, play with her, and slept indoors with us.

Around Thanksgiving, we moved from the apartment with the yard where we found her and took her with us.  She was fearful initially, but adapted right away to her new indoor home and went back to her happy kitten ways- used a litterbox right away.  However, where we lived was temporarily literally in a tiny one bedroom at my parent's house while we waited for our new apartment to be ready to move in.  My father is allergic to cats so she stayed in the bedroom the entire time.  About 3 weeks ago, we moved into our new 2 bedroom apartment.  She adjusted after a few days again and was completely normal and a happy indoor cat.  During the last two weeks, she started sleeping on my feet at night.

However, during the last few days, she has suddenly become fearful of me and my boyfriend and runs away whenever we approach.  She is reluctant to let us pet her and pulls away when we come near.  But she still hangs out in the rooms we are in and sits and watches us.  But if we walk near her, she runs away.  What is this about?  It is so sudden and weird, and she has never acted like this before!  I was trying to think if I did something to scare her but I'm not sure what I could have done.  What can I do to get her back to her normal self?

Has she been neutered?

What happens if you follow her, does she continue to flee? Sometimes my cat will run away from me, but stop in the living room. I think he just likes to grab my attention.

On the flip - she might just want some space for a while. I mean I'm over paranoid about this because I have anxiety, but if I feel I'm annoying my cat, I'll ignore him for a couple of days - cats crave attention and they'll soon miss you petting them and being more affectionate.

Yes, she's been neutered.  If you follow her she hides under chairs or the bed or something.

We thought that she was just looking for attention too because she sometimes runs back and forth between rooms sometimes but it's bizarre behavior and it's been a few days now.  I will try ignoring her and seeing how that goes.

I'm also worried because family is coming to visit and stay for a week and I'm worried that visitors will stress her out even more.

Not going to lie, it probably will ... hmm .. the best way to deal with that is to entice your kitten out into the social area with treats - even get your family to feed her treats - associate visitors with good things.
