Oh, no, I'm so very sorry.
To lose him so unexpectedly must be such a shock.  RIP, little Gadget.

Very sorry to hear this sad news, he had a wonderful life but it is never enough time, and 6 years is not nearly long enough. We lost Skipper this Summer, 7 years-old, started crying one day, took him to the vet that night, they couldn't find anything wrong, gave him an antibiotic shot, was crying the next morning when we went to work, came home that night and found him dead on the floor, so I can understand how you feel, we all wish that we could have been home to at least comfort him in his final moments, but it wasn't meant to be.

A woman who knows us said something that applies to you here too, "it's better to have a good short life than a long bad one", which is true, but we all want them to be here longer!

Very sorry to hear, you and the other kitties will slowly get somewhat back to normal, but it is so so very difficult....

God Bless.....

I am so sorry for your loss.  Gadget was a handsome gentleman.  Please take comfort that he had a wonderful life with you and his fur family, as well.  Blessings to you all.

My new screensaver for a while. Usually I have a beach theme since I love the water.

Poor Gadget. He had such a rough start. I adopted him when he was a year old. He was adopted from the shelter from a young couple, then the girl left when they broke up but left the cat. The boyfriend decided he didn't like cats and brought Gadget back to the kill shelter (their policy). He was the first one I pointed to when picking out cats to get (I got 3). The shelter was so thrilled that I got him, because he was on the kill list. I had to do some retraining over him biting when petting him bit it never totally went away, so I just really kept a close eye on anyone handling him. Such a good boy, all I had to do was say "Gadget!" and he stopped whatever behavior was wrong. Otherwise, he really meant well by everyone he came across. Again, he was such a happy cat. If there was a cat just happy to have a home, it was Gadget. He truly just loved having a home. Even during Hurricane Matthew as we tan from the storm, he took it all in stride. He was just happy to not be left alone.

But when his time came, and I know that there is no way to predict these things, I wasn't there. It hurts my heart, badly. I just wish that I could have said "I love you" one more time. All I can do now is look upwards or at his urn that I picked up yesterday and say it, hoping he hears me.

I'm so sorry Gadget. I did the best that I could. I love you and really miss you.

@peaches08, I am so incredibly sorry for your loss. We've been friends for some time now, and your loss hits me hard. So unexpected. So devastating. You take such good care of your kitties, and there was just no way for you to know that this would happen. From what I know of you, Gadget knew how much he was loved...that I do know for sure! Such a handsome, sweet boy. I'd like to think that him and Sebastian (and Grey
) are getting acquainted at the Rainbow Bridge.

My heart goes out to you, my friend, more than you know.

Gadget, you will be missed terribly and forever loved.

I am so sorry about your sweet Gadget. I cried as I read your post. I am so sorry that he had to leave you like that, what a shock. There just isn't any way to predict the future. None of us have any way of knowing when we will lose our loved ones. Just know that you gave him his life back when you adopted him. You gave him a warm loving home and all your love. You may not have been physically there when he passed but rest assured that he still felt your presence and love surrounding him. He was always happy and knew he was loved. He loved you just as much. He is watching over you now and will always be with you. Again, I am so truly sorry.
RIP Sweet Gadget!
You were so very loved and will be missed forever!

Thanks everyone. You hear of stories like this, then run and hug your cats because we never know when "it's time." We hope it never happens to us, we pay the big bucks to vets every year at least making sure that they've been seen, you read about diets and vaccinations and dewormer and flea control...as I did, and come home to a dead cat. It's shocking to say the least, since the vet's always bragged about the amazing health of my cats. Gadget was seen recently. The vets and vet techs marveled at his musculature even though he was built "cob style." He was such a powerful animal at 16+ lbs. Yet he was so sweet even when breaking up fights. He truly meant well in every action he took.

It was SUCH a shock. And thank you, it means a lot. I really tried, like everyone here at TCS, to take the best care that I could of my cats. I can't tell you the number of times they ate exotics while I ate Ramen! He was the LAST cat I'd expect of this.

Don't grieve over not being there, your love surrounded that boy every second he was in your home and he knew it. There is always something we regret when dealing with the death of a loved one, there is no such thing as being perfect. We all go through all those should haves, and could haves, but it brings nothing but heartache.

He is so incredibly lucky to have you and his family, he knew happiness and love and that is all he ever wanted. He shared your life's journey for a little while, he is content in knowing he left behind a legacy of love that will be passed down to honor him. Be grateful for every minute you spent with that precious little one, he is so grateful for you. His new life order will follow yours until the day you leave this earth, the bond of love you formed with him is eternal and can never be taken from you. Use it And your beautiful memories of happier times to bring you comfort.

Hug and kiss those furry babies left behind, they are mourning too, and will be forming a new family without the one they came to trust to bring peace. A sudden death is horrible, especially in one so young, but a lingering, suffering, death is infinitely worse, and he was spared that. He lived and loved every minute he was alive, he would want you to do the same, don't spend your present time to form a future full of sadness and grief, he would want happiness and sunshine for the one he loved so much. He will always have that special place in your heart, he will never be forgotten. Take care..........RIP beautiful Gadget, you left behind a family that loves you so very much, send what comfort you can to mend their broken hearts. Sleep well, sweet prince!

as already said, don't regret that you weren't there when he passed on- he is not gone, he lives on in your happy memories of the good times you shared.my deepest sympathy is for you as I know how hard a death of the cat you love can be-Honey r.i.p  I know it is hard- but just take each day as it comes and carry on loving your other cats in the way you have and let Gadget live on in your memories
