I have a 6 month old neutered male that I adopted from the local shelter as a kitten. He's been given a clean bill of health. He started peeing in our bathtub and on anything that will make a puddle. I've watched him on several occasions actually drinking his urine. Puzzled as he has plenty of drinking water. Why does he do this? Is it a mineral deficiency?

That is a great question, but it is probably not from a mineral (or any other) deficiency.  This sort of behavior is often recognized in orphan kittens and the reason is not know.  He appears to have an inappropriate urination problem, which should be addressed before it gets out of hand and become a habit.  As well, if he is a big drinker and urinator, it may be of benefit to have his vet re-evaluate him to make sure his blood sugar and kidneys are ok.  It would be unusual for such a young kitten to have such problems, but I have seen a few cases in my career.

Thank you for the wonderful answer. I was afraid it might be behavioral. Any suggestions on retraining to use litter box? I've tried most if not all of the common recommendations. Last evening he actually urinated on one of my kittens. He just walked up to him and peed all over the poor little guy
