Well hello there! i got a message saying I was mentioned!

I'm here. I still have wilbur and Tinker, and another stray I took in.

Unfortunately Wilbur has diabetes and epilepsy. i can't stop his seizures for some reason. he had one again last night so I stay awake with him the next 24 hours to make sure he doesn't have more.

he's happy though, just not when this happens. he still sleeps with me, and sits next to me pretty much 24/7. he gets two shots of insulin a day and 2 pills of Phenobarbital for the seizures. but they don't seem to be working

Tinker has gone rogue and doesn't really like being touched except when SHE wants to be petted lol.

Nice to see eveyrone!
@fastnoc It's great to see you!  Sorry to hear about Wilbur.  Is he over weight? Could weight loss help with his diabetes?  Maybe it would also help with his seizures too?

I was thinking about Tinker the other day. You had posted a video at one time of her roaming around inside a box of packing peanuts like Jaws!  LOL

I remember all you went through with Wilbur and Tinker.  Having to give them up, and working so hard to get them back. I'm so glad that you are all still together.

I hope you stick around and post more. We miss seeing pictures of your fur kids.

yeah he is and I have no clue how to fix it. all my cats have alwaysa eaten by grazing little bits through the day.

I give wilbur both wet and dry food. both are hills prescription diet w/d (for high glucose) and he's still chubby. he's not fat. he's a really big cat anyway, but he's big.

after this last round i have started restricting his wet meals to twice a day. but honestly? any dry food is not good. he should be eating the wet. but it's SO EXPENSIVE

he'll be ok. but man i have to give him a lot of insuling.

I'm taking him in Friday for another blood glucose curve.

it's very expensive having a diabetic and epileptic cat. It's over $200 per month in medicine and about $100 in food

Tinker really is fine. she never gives me a lick of trouble. I still have that video somewhere.

We added another to the litter. Pickle. she's a stray i was feeding and had a very bad disease called stomatitis where her body thought her teeth were foreign bodies kept trying to reject them. this causad huge sores in her gums. they looked like hamburger.

It hurt the poor girl so bad she would drool constantly rather than suffer the pain of swallowing.

I was giving her steroid shots while she was outside every few months. Then finally we decided to try a different way. stomatis has no cure. but sometimes removing the rear teeth works.

Voila! it worked!!! but when i got the surgery for her I couldn't leave her outside anymore so I adopted her and brought her in. I had built her a climate controlled home outside complete with a camera so i could moniitor her. but she got attacked just before the surgery and that was too much, so I convinced my mother to let me bring her in.

Shockingly, my mother who's allergic to cats? mysteriously got over it and Pickle is her baby:)

she has ZERO mouth problems now and is happy as a clam

Oh fyi my work from home business has boomed. i'm doing much better now, mom got freaked out when i tried to move out. she's got macular degeneration and is going blind. i'm the only child she has left, so i've opted to stay here and take care of her now. she was forced to retire with no retirement income, so she needs me

Aww thanks for remembering and missing me! No excuses for not being on in forever, sorry... We've still got Genever and Rose. G is 8 and doing well, but she had a seizure and possibly a stroke the evening before the superbowl. It was so scary, and I'm so glad we were home when it happened so we could get her to the ER vet. She spent 2 nights at the ER vet and I took her to my vet for 4 days while i was at work so they could feed her, finally by Friday I felt we could leave her home on her own. She was very vestibular for the first week, she'd fall over after walking just a few steps, it was just heartbreaking to see, but she improved bit by bit each day. It took a few weeks for her to eat more regularly and walk better and be able to jump on the sofa or bed again, and I would say after about 2 months she was as better as she would get, maybe 97% back to normal. She still gets a little wobby now and then, like if she shakes her headafter eating, but really, she's great! My babygirl!

Rose is great too, she's a goof, full of tortitude, and talks all the time! She's 4, and has some squish to her. She's right on the line I think of the vet telling me she's gotta lose weight. But the only good thing about G spending 2 nights in the ER is that I saw how much Rose really eats, and it's not that much! And she runs around and plays like a kitten, so, she's just a curvy lady.

Thanks again for thinking of us, and I should try to not be a stranger! It's fun here!

Apparently if you put an "@" symbol before the person's name, they get an email.
That only works if the person has chosen to receive a notification email when someone uses the @ page feature
The option is in one's user account setting.

Great thread!  I've been here over four years now, & I recognize about 4 of those names that I have wondered about too. Good to hear from those of you that have popped back in to say hi.

Even though I lost Angel almost 4 months ago now, I have somewhat stuck around because of the friendships I have made, & to continue to help others if I can. So many helped me through a few different things, & I will do the same for others if I can.

I'm still around.  Unfortunately, life has been too busy for me to be active here for quite a while.  Maybe when I retire next year...

*waves hello*

Busy over on Facebook. :)
Glad to hear from you.  Facebook can be addicting, but stop by here sometimes and post updates and some pictures of your babies :)

yeah he is and I have no clue how to fix it. all my cats have alwaysa eaten by grazing little bits through the day.
With multiple cats, diet changes and feeding can be complicated.   You should feed them separate (in different rooms), and pick up their dishes after feeding time.  They may graze now, but when they realize that they have to eat when the food is there because it won't be there all day, they will start eating more each meal.  Since Abby died, I have put Spencer and Katie on diets. Breakfast, dinner and about 10 pieces of hard food at bedtime to tie them over.  No more free feeding.   Post in the health forum for suggestions.
Thanks again for thinking of us, and I should try to not be a stranger! It's fun here!
So glad you got this message.  Please visit and post more often. If not everyday, at least every few weeks :)

Happy to hear from you.  Life can take some interesting paths.  Hopefully you can find a bit of time before next year to pop in again :) Maybe even post some pics of your babies in the picture forum :)

Not sure why the forum software would chase you away. It took a bit of time to get used to, but it's pretty standard software.   If you miss us and our babies, stick around ;)  We wouldn't complain if you did :)

Okay, here's my update, folks:

I am now living back in Salem, MA after spending 4-1/2 years in Lexington, NC. I loved it there and miss the friends I made, but in 2011 I became disabled with a chronic pain condition, peripheral neuropathy (non-diabetic, but it's the burning kind.) I moved home to MA and could only take 2 of my (then 6) cats back to MA with me, so I made a REALLY hard decision and took just Baby Bonnie (a kitten I rescued in Nov 2008 thru Kai Bengals' wife, Teri) and Miracle Maxwell, aka Max, and made the trek back to live with some friends temporarily until I could get my life straightened out and get the others back from foster care.

Ginger, Ferris, Penny and another little old gal that had adopted me while I lived in NC (Sissy, a beautiful, blue-eyed, seal-point "Siamese" tortie) went to live with a cat rescuer friend in SC for 18 months while I got my life together. That 18 months away from my Ferris was TORTURE and I did all I could to get my furbabies back as quickly as I possibly could. I was SO BLESSED to have found their foster dad through the Bengal Rescue Network. <3 I owe that man SO MUCH!!!

So I got my babies back in 2014, all but Sissy who stayed with her foster dad, and during the trip I got to meet @LDG  and her DH, Gary, and got to meet almost all of her indoor-only furbabies (and some of the ferals, too!) at the time. I fell in love with Sheldon, and he with me, may my little boyfriend RIP.

Ginger is now about 11 years old, her "Gotcha Day" is in August. She is still running in the cat wheel, more fit and in shape, I think, thank any of the others. She can go all night long! She loves to fly around the top of the room on half of the 43-foot "cat walk" that runs along 3 walls of my small two-room apartment.

Ferris is just turning 10 - tomorrow is his guesstimated birthday, actually. I love this huge boy with every fiber of my being and I think his time away from me, and then my coming back to get him (Momma came for us!!!) has caused us to bond that much more tightly. He is the love of my life, and I hate to think that our time together is perhaps already half over. When that boy goes, I will be a basket case.

Penny will be 11 years old in September. She has a rough time living in this small space, as Max won't let her use the wheel, like, EVER, and it is her favorite thing to do in the world. The wheel went with her and Ginger to foster care, and Penny LOVED living there! She was Top Cat and I think although she was happy to come back to ME, coming back to her nephew (and his minion, Baby Bonnie) was really hard for her to do. I do the best I can to love her as much as I can. I hope that I will be able to live in a bigger place and that she will once again get to run in the wheel whenever she wants, but for now, this is our reality and we both have to suck it up.

Maxwell is 9 years old (where has the time gone?! I just adopted them all yesterday?!) and is still my crazy, sexy, monkey boy. His antics keep me laughing every day. His best friend in the world is Baby Bonnie, a/k/a Baby, whom I adopted in 2008. She will be turning 8 years old at the end of Sept/beginning of Oct. She is a gray and brown tabby who was raised by Max and therefore grew up thinking she is a "bengul." She has finally started to slow down, and is a cantankerous little thing who wants ALL THE ATTENTIONS and needs to be next to me or touching me at pretty much all times, lol.

So much more I could cover, but that's the gist of it!!!

Thank you for thinking of me!!! :D <3

What a great thread! Great to see some of the "oldies" around!

I bet some of the people from early on have changed their email addresses since then too. I would have @mentioned a few  that were active back in 2000 but they almost certainly have different emails these days.

What a great update. Thank you :) I'm sorry that you had to put your babies into foster care for a time, but am happy you have them back now.

I remember all of your cats, even Sissy.  It wasn't long after you got her that you stopped posting.   I especially remember Ferris and his floofy tail! I swear, I've never seen a cat's tails that long and floofy, like ever!

Sorry about the pain issues that you are having.  I don't have the kind of pain you have, but I do have chronic pain that has gotten to a point where I can't work.

Time sure flies. My Chynna went to the Bridge in July 2010. She was 18 1/2 years.    I adopted 2 kittens back in January 2011.  They are littermates; Spencer and Katie.  They will be 6 years this September.  My Abby left me on April 15th this year. She would have been 18 on June 19th.

I hope you stick around and post; if not,  at least stop by periodically.

You never know.  I still use an email address that I created in 2010. It's not my primary anymore, but I still check the box at least weekly.  Nothing but spam in it these days though.  So I keep it for when a website requires you to add an email address.

:wavey: Sorry to go "missing" but there have been changes in my life that affected several sites I used to participate.

I'm trying to remember when I last posted, and I think it was about 2010 when I had surgery to removed excess tissue and fluid from my abdomen. I was doing better but then the lungs went haywire. In 2014 I had a bad infection and had a severe reaction to Levaquin. The upshot is that I was having problems (difficulty walking) that required more full time help than I could get from my home health aide. Also, sis said she and BIL were planning on selling the house and moving to a smaller place since BIL's health has been giving him problems.

I made a phone call to my niece and she agreed to take my furbabies so I could move to a nursing facility. In late December 2014 she took them to her home (about 160 miles from me) and I am now a resident at a full care facility/rehab. I cannot walk on my own and spend my days on the computer, doing word puzzles, and I have now started coloring again. One of the nurses brought me a couple of books and her extra pens and markers.

And cracking bad jokes and telling naughty stories to the CNAs.

Topaz settled in quickly. All she wanted is a food bowl, big litter pan, and a comfy bed. This past January she died in her sleep. I know she was over 10 years old.:sniffle:

Aristotle took a while. (I miss him so much! :whitecat: ) He has to share the house with 4 other cats and 2 dogs. But he has acclimated and has plenty of windows for bird watching.

I have had a couple of encounters while here. One resident has her son bring her goldendoodles, and a local rescue brought animals in a couple of weeks ago and I became a chew toy for a kitten. :lol3: The activities director (cat person!) has been trying to get it as a regular event.

I finally joined facebook because I found out I was missing a lot of family news and events! Nobody would call me. :sigh: I have connected with several cat folk I met here.

Hope everybody out there who remembers me is doing okay. I have recommended this site to several who needed help with their cats.

Hugs all around! :grphug:

I still look in and read up every now and again, but I haven't posted in such a long time.  Most of my posts were photos of the tribe's antics, and we've all settled into the non-photogenic rigors of old age.

Those of the tribe that are left still have their moments, but I'm not nearly as quick with the camera as I used to be.  Peanut Butterum, Sassy Sassparilla, MIschief Mistofolees and Turvy Demeter have all crossed the bridge to wait for us beyond.  Hobo Skimbleshanks, Blondie Rumpleteaser and Trace Tumblebrutus are all doing well, but all just like me, older, slower and heavier.
