I agree. My cats are VERY picky eaters and I keep a wide variety of foods in their rotation from high end to the less expensive choices like Friskies and Fancy Feast and they are doing great. with the latter 2 brands, I stick to the poultry based pates. I found these new Friskies at Target the other day. Not all of them. The one in the yellow can (if memory serves, that's the pate) and the one in the green can. I got one of each. I'm hoping they like the pate one better but knowing them, they might not like either. Since they are so picky, I usually will split a can of Friskies pate between them and then add some of a 3 oz can of Pride by Instinct duck, rabbit or lamb or Wellness cubed turkey on top of each dish to mix flavors and textures.

Their favorite of the Friskies is the turkey and giblets and they like most of the poultry based FF classics. When they are being really fussy (especially Lilith who is very, very picky), I bust out some of the FF turkey for kittens. They all love it. I keep a stash of it "for emergencies"
My cats are so darn picky . The only food they would eat was FF but it is just too expensive .  I finally got them to eat Friskies Pate and they love it . They eat it twice a day everyday . I have not tried the new flavors though . My cats do not like change . If they are happy with their food and I try to change they will stop eating . Can't deal with that . They like four flavors of Friskies Pate .  Turkey & Giblet , Liver & Chicken , Mixed Grill , Ocean Whitefish ..

Thank goodness my cats are not picky for the most part unless they are sick. I've only come across one food they definitely do not like (collectively even!).

@Kat0121 - sounds like you make your own "concoctions" :lol3:

I've started adding other foods to a rotation as well. The only reason for this is the Friskies (at least the ones we usually give them) is pretty high in phosphorus, so that won't work well with my CKD kitty as far as the "community" food goes. Once or twice a week ok, but not every day. Unfortunately, even a good chunk of the better-quality foods are high in phosphorus and VERY high in protein (trying to keep it at ~50% for Sara). I can give the other kitties the higher protein/ higher phos stuff in the morning, but still need to consider the community food that they all eat at night.

However, I am on a budget, so need to opt more for Friskies and Fancy Feast going forward I think, but if something is on sale on Chewy I'll definitely go for it! I have a bunch of higher quality stuff I got, I'm just rotating it in with the Friskies now. They LOVE the Friskies!
Yeah, I have to. Sometimes I will just give them some pate to see if they will eat it and the answer is more often than not a big NO so I have to add something else. Soulistic Good Karma is a great topper for pates.

Lilith is beyond picky. Sometimes I wonder if it's a power trip and she wants to see how far she can go to get me to cater to her. She's very petite so she's the one that I watch to make sure she's eating enough. I've dumped more meals than I can count and then offered others just to get food in her. I have brought her dish to her in the big cat tree after she's gone there to sulk when something I offered her "offended" her. Of course this was after I dumped the first meal, washed her dish and filled it with something else. :rolleyes2 Who owns who? :lol3:

She's a Pure Bites fiend. I have to have a bag (a big dog sized bag) on hand at all times. She expects every meal to be topped with some. I try to give them meals without them to see if they will eat them first and if they don't, I'll bust out the bag. She will sit on the table and stare at me until I say, "OK. Mommy will get you your chicken". We've gone through over half a big bag since the 10th. I just ordered another one. I panic when we go below half a bag. There's no way that would last until the next Subscribe and save order comes.

I get a lot of food through my Amazon subscribe and save. I wish they'd add more to what they offer. Since mine like the Friskies poultry pates, I buy the 32 can pack at Wal Mart for about $15. Amazon has it for the same price but it's not available for S&S. I wish it was. I look for any reason to avoid WM.

By-product MEAL and by-products in canned foods are very different ingredients. The meal is rendered, so all the stuff that can't be fed fresh goes in there (4-d animals, etc.). Fresh by-products aren't rendered, and so they aren't too bad---the USDA has a very specific definition. Any part of an animal is nutritious to a cat (except fur/feathers/etc. but those aren't allowed in by-products).

I discovered Chewy recently, they are better in price sometimes than Amazon!
I've used Chewy before and they are good but with my Amazon Prime, I don't need to spend $49 to get free shipping. I think that the 2 of them are starting to watch each other. I check both before I order and a lot of times their prices are exactly the same. With the Pure Bites, Amazon is always cheaper. The price on the big bag fluctuates. I've gotten it as cheap as $16.06 with my 15% discount. I think Chewy gets $24.99.

Yeah, I rarely have a problem spending at least $49 when buying pet food. Five cats and two dogs, it's pretty easy actually! :lol3:

We are not financially well off, but have two cats of our own, and foster as well. Friskies is not a perfect food, but it still has the higher meat and water content that kitties need and allows me to stretch my budget. I've estimated that I go through about 650 oz of canned food per month! That is approximately 118 5.5 oz cans! Sometimes I get donated canned food for the foster cat and often I don't. Spending an average of $1.50 or more for those hundred and some cans won't work for my budget.

So Friskies pates, as well as Tractor Supply 4Health brand grain free canned foods help me to have guaranteed economical options for my kitties. I rotate those cheaper brands with lots of higher end foods, especially when I can find sales and deals. I try to vary the food choices that I give to my cats as much as I can, in order to minimize the risks of any one food.

Today, I found some close dated discounted Innova Evo canned food on sale. I also found Blue Wilderness canned food on sale for $1 per can at Family Farm and Home. (Regular price is $1.79 each) I bought 25 cans.

I have a whole stash of Friskies pates in 13 oz cans. I found them on sale for just $0.70 each. That's an all time record for the cheapest that I've bought Friskies.

650 oz per month, WOW! Well, if I were to actually add up what we use.. definitely less than that, even when I average it up. But we supplement with dry.

$0.70 for the 13oz cans of Friskies?? Where was that? And just WOW. I need to look for sales more often.

I purchased the $0.70 cans of Friskies at Meijer's. I know that there are Meijer's stores in Chicago suburbs. It might be worth keeping an eye out for sales there.

Really? Then you must have not read the ingredients list on the website or on the label.
j
For CatConcoctions Cod and Cheesy Bacon flavor:

Ingredients

Water sufficient for processing, chicken, liver, meat by-products, wheat gluten, soy flour, cod, corn starch-modified, artificial and natural flavors, tricalcium phosphate, added color, potassium chloride, taurine, cheese and bacon flavor, spice and coloring, salt, choline chloride, thiamine mononitrate, Vitamin E supplement, zinc sulfate, ferrous sulfate, niacin, calcium pantothenate, Vitamin A supplement, menadione sodium bisulfite complex (source of Vitamin K activity), copper sulfate, manganese sulfate, pyridoxine hydrochloride, riboflavin supplement, Vitamin B-12 supplement, xanthan gum, biotin, folic acid, Vitamin D-3 supplement, potassium iodide. A-6011

For Classic Poultry Pate (this has TWO sources of by-products):

Ingredients

Turkey, poultry by-products, water sufficient for processing, meat by-products, liver, fish, rice, artificial and natural flavors, guar gum, potassium chloride, salt, choline chloride, carrageenan, magnesium sulfate, calcium phosphate, taurine, thiamine mononitrate, zinc sulfate, Vitamin E supplement, ferrous sulfate, niacin, copper sulfate, calcium pantothenate, Vitamin A supplement, manganese sulfate, menadione sodium bisulfite complex (source of Vitamin K activity), pyridoxine hydrochloride, riboflavin supplement, Vitamin B-12 supplement, biotin, folic acid, Vitamin D-3 supplement, potassium iodide. B-6057

My experience with my cats and with Friskies was terrible. My cats were very overweight, lethargic, it messed with their tummies and their coats were very dull and dry. Friskies and most of the Purina brand foods are lower quality foods, not matter if it's dry or wet. I switched my cats to a higher quality food and they lost weight and went down to a healthy weight, they were more active and running around instead of sleeping ALL of the time, their tummies got better (less vomiting, less diarrhea, better smelling pees and poops), their coats because softer and shinier, etc...

Contrary to what Purina claims, by-products are not a source of nutrition or protein. The ONLY good by-product is when it says it is labeled as "Organ by-product" as this is from the stomach, and not the left-overs used after all the edible animal parts are used. In the wild, the stomach is the place that animals go to first, then they will move to muscle tissue.  I've found this website's article to be highly educating.

I also prefer to have discussions with people who are knowledgeable about the food that they are feeding to their animals and read labels before making assumptions about the food or the person trying to educate them.
I had 2 old lady cats that lived to 19 and 20 on Friskies canned when I was younger

Friskies is one of those brands that to many people look down upon just because its at pretty much every single supermarket. I don't think its the best but I actually think it is better for cats than a few of the really expensive wet cats foods at the pet store. I think I have seen more people report their cats for being sick from eating stuff like royal canine or even prescription diet than Friskies. I feed most of my cats Dave's wet, Instinct wet and wellness. But whenever someone doesn't have that much money like under 50-80c per can I recommend Friskies

I like Friskies, and Science Diet for that matter (I know a lot of folks don't like this one either). I think both have their place. My only issue with Friskies (along with many of the higher-quality foods) is the high phosphorus levels. Other than that, Friskies isn't too bad. It's low carb, moderate protein, moderate calorie. But the high-phos might be just the particular ones I buy. Maybe some of the other flavors are better in that department.

I like Friskies too .  My cats are super picky so I had a very difficult time getting them to eat wet food . They really liked FF Classic but it would occasionally give them diarrhea and vomiting so I had to stop feeding it . I finally got them eating Friskies Pate , no issues at all . They love it .

I can at least say Friskies never made my kitties belch. I swear, since I started rotating the canned foods by more than just flavor, I've been hearing a lot more belching. I'm not used to that with cats!

My cats are doing great on the Friskies Pates . I rotate four flavors . Unfortunately I cannot try other brands . My cats do not like change . If I add something they do not like they will stop eating altogether . They are happy just eating Friskies .

I had to reduce the Friskies unfortunately because of the higher phos, but we do still use it once or twice a week in the rotation. Before, we had it every night except Sunday (they got Fancy Feast on that night). They still do on occasion but I"m rotating other things on Sundays too.

Do the Friskies Pate formulas have high Phosphorus as well ? What is high ?

According to Catinfo.org  the pate formulas average 1.5% Phos dry matter .
