I found it at one of my favorite local pet shops. It seems to be moderately priced and is also grain free. Ghibli has devoured their "Chicken Lickin" flavor, and it seems to have A DECENT amount of moisture in it which I like. I am a cat newbie but the ingredient list sounds pretty legit to me. At 1.79 for a 13oz can on Chewy... the price seems pretty good too. Go look at their site and tell me what you think! Should I add this to my rotation?

I currently feed:

Canidae

Tiki cat

Nutro

Sheba Pates

Nature's variety

Weruva

I rarely see the name of this brand mentioned on this site... but I looked at their website and they seem to have some pretty cool all-natural stuff! They have a line of raw (gently dried) chunks of organs, muscle, etc for cat treats. Ghibli loves those too.

I read about them having a rough past with the owners getting into some trouble, but it seems like the brand is still pretty reputable.

Here are the ingredients for the wet food:

Chicken, Chicken Broth, Chicken Liver, Butternut Squash, Tomato Paste, Guar Gum, Flaxseed, Potassium Chloride, Dicalcium Phosphate, Brewers Dried Yeast, Taurine, Vitamins (Vitamin E Supplement, Niacin Supplement, L-Ascorbyl-2-Polyphosphate [Source Of Vitamin C], Thiamine Mononitrate [Source Of Vitamin B1], Calcium Pantothenate, Vitamin A Supplement, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride [Source Of Vitamin B6], Riboflavin Supplement [Source Of Vitamin B2], Folic Acid, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Biotin, Vitamin D3 Supplement), Minerals (Zinc Sulfate, Iron Sulfate, Copper Sulfate, Manganese Sulfate, Sodium Selenite, Potassium Iodide).

ps... my noodle is growing up

OMG,your cat is out of this world  GORGEOUS

As to Evangers, I think it's that issue with the owners that keeps people from buying it, not the product itself.  That's a pretty hard thing to recover from.

mrsgreenjeans,

Thank you! He is the best little rescue :)

I know! The owners have done some pretty shady things. However, I have been checking the FDA pet food recall website and it seems like they haven't had anything recalled this year. I was surprised to see some really "popular" brands like stella and Chewy's recalled multiple times this year! Again, I don't plan to feed it all the time, but just occasionally in my rotation. The price is just so good and the ingredients are so simple
so I'm kind of just thinking its okay to add every once in a while! Hopefully

I think Evanger's is a great food. I, like you, read every label and very particular about what I feed my cat. My only problem with Evanger's is it tends to be less calories than my cat needs. My girl needs 180 a day and it is easier to get closer to that goal with raw and other brands of canned. Start with one can though as the cat has to like it.

Noodle is beautiful!!

On the surface, looking at the ingredients list, it appears to be a really good food.   I've often thought about buying it and testing it out, but the owners' past has stopped me from doing that.   If you nose around on the internet, you'll find the situation where they lied about what kind of protein was in their food  (something along the lines of saying it was duck, but there was no actual duck in there when the food was tested).  That is a HUGE deal to completely misrepresent the contents of the food - if they are doing that, what else are they doing?  Can't trust folks who would do that.....

Also (and this is anecdotal only so not verified to be true) I've read things online that say their facility is just FILTHY.   Might be a lie, might be true, I don't know - but those rumors combined with the indisputable fact that they lied about their food makes this a company I don't want to give my money to.   As Sarah Ann states above, if I'm buying a duck food because my cat is allergic to chicken - and you're selling chicken food and calling it duck food - that could make my cat super sick  (my cat doesn't food allergies for real - just speaking hypothetically).   I'd feel like I was rolling the dice by feeding Evanger's -  really, any commercial pet food is rolling the dice, but Evanger's owners are obviously shady........

Thanks for the great response! I agree that it may be the best to not rely on Evangers a bunch for my cat. However, I already have 4 cans of it, so I think I will just feed him those and probably not buy it for a while afterwards
. I too do not want to take the risk. Lying about ingredients is a WHOLE separate issue than mold or nasty bacterial contaminations that I see happen with other popular brands on occasion. Lying about ingredients It is downright irresponsible and deceptive. It would be crazy to think that this brand would make the same mistake again since they are under so much scrutiny already...... but I think I will side with you in that I do not want to support such a company if I do not have to-- there are plenty of other great brands on the market! I live in Oregon (aka holistic, natural, local, pet food central)... so it's not like my options are limited. Thanks for the great insight :)

I think you'll be totally fine feeding your cats the Evangers cans that you already have - or even putting it into a food rotation once in a while.   I agree with you that they probably wouldn't pull that same stunt again where they lie about the protein in the food - that would be pretty dumb on their part to make the same mistake twice
I just think if they are the kind of people who would do something like that in the first place, - yeah, they probably won't make that same mistake again, but they've proved themselves to be the kind of folks who would cut corners or engage in deceptive practices with the consumer......I don't think the food itself is dangerous  or anything for a regular cat - I would likely avoid them altogether though if my cat had food allergies.

And oh my goodness, your cat is so beautiful!!!  Wow!
