I have a flea infestation in my house and really don't want to use powders and a mask.  I also tried Advantage II on one cat, but he licked it and started salivating.  I washed out his mouth and bathed him; this was last week and no side effects.  As a result, I really don't want to apply it to the rest of my cats.  Nomoflea has a bottle for the home and a bottle for the pet.

Now I see that Dr. Mercola has a product called, "Flea and Tick Defense."  Any opinions on this?

Just looked it up. It's a repellent.

You need an insect growth regulator.

In my opinion.

I liked precor 2000...it's an insecticide/igr and it worked for me.
Revolution or comfortis might work better for you for the stuff applied to the cat directly.

Thanks for your reply.  I should have elaborated: I'm trying to avoid harmful chemicals.  One of the cats is FIV+, so I definitely don't want Revolution or anything like that.  I checked out Precor 2000, but I found conflicting information; one site suggested the ingredient methoprene was toxic to cats.

I have a book by Dr. Pitcairn and he recommended bathing with castille soap with eucalyptus.  I did that and now learned that eucalyptus is toxic to them. UGH

I noticed worm pieces, so I de-wormed them two days ago.  The FIV+ cat is very swollen and was swollen before the flea meds.  Today he didn't want to eat his regular food, so I picked up another food that he likes.  He nibbled, but it wasn't enough to sustain him.  I'm concerned about the soap I used two days ago and now the worm pills.  How long do the pills take to work?  My other two cats were never swollen and they are eating as usual.

I decided to run to Walmart and got some Advantage II, despite my fear of it.  I'm watching the cats like a hawk and each time they try to groom themselves I freak out.  Anyway, on one of the cats I had a hard time applying it to the skin.  I don't know why it got all over his fur, but it looks like he's got much less fur in that area than the other two (theirs is dense, so the solution didn't rise to the top).  So, his neck looks wet and it isn't exactly in the center - it sorta goes off to the side.  Once it dries should I do anything like wash the fur or will it be okay?  I mean he's eventually going to reach it either with his paw or with his tongue and I don't want him to get sick.  Sorry for all the questions, but I've only given my cats flea treatment once and it was over 10 years ago until last week when I applied it to one cat and it didn't go so well.

I still need to find something to apply to the carpet.

For carpet try Borax. One article said you can even sprinkle borax on a dog but I don't know about a cat. I probably read the same reviews on No Mo Flea like you did. Maybe you can google "cat fleas Jason galaxy" he has a program called " Cats from Hell" and he is also on Facebook so you may get an answer from him. Oh, one of the reviews mentioned this product I do not know if it is for cats as well. Sentry flea and tick oatmeal shampoo. Keep us posted thanks and good luck

I think we finally got rid of fleas and I didn't treat the carpet, even though I ordered diatomaceous earth.  I had to re-apply Advantage II just three weeks after the first application, because it was really bad.  After I did that the fleas started going away.  My cats have been scratching, but each time I use the flea comb it comes back empty; I think the food might be the cause of that, so I'll be ordering a different one.  Also, it was so bad that fleas were biting me and they were clearly visible on my legs; that's no longer happening.

I do follow Jackson Galaxy on Facebook, but he doesn't reply to comments.  Once in awhile he has a Q&A session, but I've not participated in any.

For a shampoo, you can use regular blue Dawn. For carpets you can buy Precor2000 online for decent results.

I've heard of people having luck with baking soda and vacuuming every day. Lay down a box of baking soda overnight, then light up the carpet with a flashlight. Wait 15 minutes and vacuum. Dispose of contents immediately in a sealed bag. The light attracts the fleas, makes them come out of their cocoon. You need to do this several times a week til fleas are gone.
Have heard of mixed safety with cats and Borax.

Your better bet if money is s problem is to buy advantage 2 combined with the Precor, used as directed. If you buy a carpet flea killer at a store, be sure to buy one with an insect growth regulator (igr)---and never let a cat walk on a freshly sprayed carpet or sofa.

You can also try FOOD GRADE ONLY diamatacous earth, or CimeXa for carpets. Puff on carpets and vacuum up at least 3-4 times a week. CimeXa works better. Use a puffer, not the package.

In one of the books I have, "The New Natural Cat", the author states that baking soda is toxic to cats.(Sodium Bicarbonate)
I don't have the book in front of me, but I am 99.9% sure it was Sodium Bicarbonate that the author had listed.

I did a google search and found some discrepancy in the answers. Most site say that baking soda ingested in large amounts is harmful to cats, but the occasional lick won't hurt them. One site simply stated that baking soda is highly toxic. I do know that some litter deodorizer additives are made of baking soda.

Found the book, she said that baking soda irritates their paws and not to use benzoate of soda. For that reason, I have stayed away from using litter that contains baking soda

We bought the Nomoflea. We got the one for our cats and the one for the house, It DID not work,  I put it on the cats on a Wednesday, and sprayed the house. By Saturday the cats was loaded with fleas, I had to go to Walmart, and get some Pet Armor,  And put DE powder on my rugs, If any one is thinking of using this product. Save your money.  If you give your cats a bath, use apple  cider vinegar , mixed with water and Dawn.

My hubby called to people at Nomoflea, And told them what is going on. At first they told him. Its not 30 days yet, Give it a chance, Then they told him it must be new fleas,  He told them that we used all most  a full bottle of the stuff they have for the house,  They gave him some kind of number, We must send it back, to get our money back. In my search for natural flea killer I found something called, Flee, Flea,  For the kitten, Quincy, ( Baby ) It killed the fleas right away, And since it is all natural, You can use it again if you have to, This product I would tell people to try it.

I actually have used this on my cats and my dog.  And it worked great for us.  I doused my dog and my cats with the Nomoflea spary and had to get 4 bottles of the house spray to use one bottle in each room.  But the fleas are gone.

If your house is infested and your cats get exposed to fleas regularly, it's going to be an ongoing battle during flea season.  So, find something that you can use regularly without poisoning your pets.  That's what I liked the most about nomoflea.  I used it every weekend on my cats and about once every 2 weeks on the dog.  The cats are inside and outside.  Every tiem the go out they get more fleas on them.  The spray works good for a few weeks but I'm not taking any chances.

Its not a repellent but the fleas that get on them will die when they are sprayed or once they run around through the fur to get the stuff on them.  That's how it was explained to me and it seems to be true for us.

I know this is an old post, but can you provide a link to "Flee Flea"?

I Googled it and it came up with several different products of the same name. :(

Though I haven't used this product, I would not based on reviews here.  I'd like to chime in about fleas though.  With ten cats, it's been difficult to rid our house of fleas.  One cat we combed with the flea zapper and got 900 fleas in two days.  If you comb a cat and there are no fleas, don't be deceived, as fleas are crafty and will hide, going to another side, or eyes, but know how to avoid "the comb".  Our cat became very ill with the fleas, so we took austere measures.  BEWARE sprinkling DE.  It puffs up in the air and makes the air UNBREATHABLE.  The only way to use it is to have a water spray bottle handy; first wet the carpet, sprinkle from only a few inches away, then spray the air to sink the particles.  I've gotten some great ideas here on this topic, so thanks to all.  Another tip - we had fleas crawling on our heads at night. If you comb your cat and come up clean, try again at night, when fleas become active.  They have a cycle and I'm not sure what it is, but they do spring up at certain times, very aggressive.  I'd tried everything and finally purchased Activyl (Merck) from the vet. It's a different composition than the other flea drops.  Yes it works, but nothing works completely until the fleas in the environment are killed.  Placing simple white plates of water around the house will catch some.  Many flea traps have a nightlight to attract even more; just put your plate of water underneath a wall plug in nightlight.  Most important is vacuuming.  You can vacuum carpets and even your bedspread.  Another thing that I found helpful that nobody else has said anywhere: I cut up old towels, sheets, and use these squares on top of all bedding.  They are small enough that they can be changed daily or even more frequently, shaken out the window, and tossed in the washer without piling up the laundry.  Daily place an old sheet on top of your bed; shake out daily. This has helped immensely.  And plan on keeping this up for a month and sometimes forever.  Oh, and keep small cups or jars of water around to deposit fleas that you catch on you; squeezing them does not kill them usually.  One flea can have 100 off"spring" (no pun intended).  They are more than a nuisance; they make life miserable for your pet.  Oh, and you can always purchase a flea bomb.
