Was one measly degree when I left this morning, with windchills around -15/20.

It was a brutal way to start the day, but I see others had worse so I'll stop complaining LOL

Stay inside mostly. When have to go out, we bundle up.
How much can you bundle up? And what about those who work?
Last winter I was dog walking in the record breaking cold weather. One day I was out there in windchills of -40 C. It can be done and some people to have to go outside in all kinds of weather, you just learn how to layer really well and wear a balaclava & ski goggles without being self conscious. :)

I've never learnt about layering. I suppose if I lived in that climate I'd have learnt to do it. Good for you. How many dogs do you walk?

Layering:

Thigh length underwear, yoga tights, fleece long johns, 1 pair wool socks, 1 pair fleece socks, jeans, cotton camisole, cotton t-shirt, long sleeve thick pullover, fleece vest, fleece hoodie with wool hat worn inside hoodie - hat pulled down over forehead, felt lined boots, long winter coat (down filled if possible), wool of fleece, gloves inside mittens, very long scarf wrapped around neck many times and pulled up over chin, mouth, nose as need be. Unless you are 15 and looking cool is have a totally different meaning. Think Stay Puff Marshmallow Man looky-likey.

If you are just going 2 houses up the street to check on neighbour's cat, bundling up with housecoat under winter coat is perfectly acceptable in my neighbourhood - either that, or neighbours are too polite to tell me otherwise.
Because it's hard to find a good gas station at the North Pole?
No need for a gas station at the North Pole. Car wouldn't start anyway. That's why Santa still uses reindeer.

Outdoors +2C indoors +15C, has been quite warm recently.

When it is cold top most layer should be something that blocks wind, then closest to skin should be something that does not get wet easily, so when one sweats it stays relatively dry.

Then in between those two something that traps air so that air is not moving much, that is insulating layer that is adjusted to weather and activity so that one does not sweat too much and does not get too cold.

General rule is to have bit chilly feeling first when going outdoors, if one feels warm when going outdoors even walking makes one sweat and soon one freezes because of wet clothes.

So keep dry, keep wind off from your skin, and keep moving. When it is -30C and I have to bicycle to shop, I tend to cover my face with scarf so that only eyes are visible, also commando kind of beanie works great, I really could not care less what others think of what I wear, I rather stay well and warm :D

Tinfoil is incredible stuff, you can wrap piece of cardboard or shoe insert inside of tinfoil and it will keep toes from freezing, tinfoil reflects heat very well.

For fingers, I usually wear woven gloves and if it is really cold, then sheepskin mittens with wool inside which I pull over those woven gloves.

When standing one produces less than 100W of heat, but with good workout that becomes well over 1000W of heat, so moving is easiest way to shake that chilly feeling.

We have had quite mild winter, but there has been bit colder than -30C few times, biggest issue is that with all the clothing movements become kind of heavier and my bicycle likes to get quite stiff, but most of the time I overwear and feel like being in sauna :D

After a few mornings of being in the minus side, we are at a rather balmy 11 F this morning. The wind has calmed down, too. That's the good news.

The bad news? 5-7 inches of snow, starting between 9 and 11 this morning and going all day, to end as sleet and freezing rain on Sunday. I think this is the fourth weekend now in a row that we've had snow.

It was -10 F when I got up. It's supposed to get over 30 F late tonight and the snow that is on its way is going to turn to ice then rain.

 warming up to -6C today! Makes it easier to go out and do something. We're getting a bit of snow too. I'll take snow over rain this time of year though.

It's -11 F right now, I believe that is the lowest it's been this winter.  We also got the most snow we have gotten this winter this past weekend.  It's supposed to get up into the 20's today.

-4 right now (7:32 a.m.). It's nice and sunny though, so it might be a nice day for a walk anyway. We shall see. We are under a wind chill warning, so the wind will be picking up within the next couple of hours.

It's currently 32ºF in North Charleston, SC & they are expecting some freezing rain.

Yesterday they announced school closures for today, jumped the gun since it's barely been raining! I'll be surprised if we get any freezing rain, honestly. It's always hype in SC and then nothing happens

@Tara G  I have family that lives in Charleston, not sure what part but we are planning to visit during Spring Break for a few days. I've never been and can't wait.

The weather is Cloudy 34°  with a chance of freezing rain and possibly snow early tomorrow.

That's like here. They have a 3 hr delay today and it didn't get to freezing, just rain. I live in the mountains and even those roads were clear, just wet. I wouldn't doubt they will be closed tomorrow.

Awesome! :D

I love where I live now, about 15 miles south of downtown Charleston in a town called Hollywood. Near a lot of creeks and rivers, and closer to my favorite beach (Edisto). We enjoy crabbing, fishing, and going to the beach, and it's so much quieter in Hollywood than it was in Summerville, where we both lived before (about 20-25 miles NW of Charleston). I can't stand Sville these days, its grown SO MUCH and traffic is always horrendous. And it's still growing, growing, growing. Plus it was further away from where our hobbies took place

Downtown Charleston is beautiful, and so are the plantations you can visit, the Battery at the harbor, Yorktown/Patriot's Point, Fort Sumter, great restaurants, etc... There's SO much to do here, I still haven't done it all, and this summer will be 10 years that I've been down here. I think you'll have a lot of fun!

Our weather just dropped to 31ºF, and they are still listing a freezing rain advisory until 5pm. It's lightly raining, but it doesn't look frozen to me! My brother just posted their projected forecast in Charlotte and I'm jealous. I miss snow! When I lived in Charlotte for a year, we got ½ inch, I leave and they get almost regular winters lol.

My former vet bought an established practice in the Charleston area and moved there about a year ago.  She was originally from upstate New York and went to vet school and then started working in Ohio.  She left during the really harsh winter we had last year, maybe that was it for her as far as cold.  She bought a practice in Summerville and she is very good.
