Before I had my cats, I had two Betta fish. Since they're "fighting fish", I figured they should have tough names, so I chose Slasher and Ripper. After the fish died, and I adopted two cats, I decided the names fit, so I recycled them.

We were unimaginative. We kept the name it came with from the adoption shelter. We figured it wasn't a bad name, and she already knew it was her name.

When we got our first Bengal we spent some time researching names from the regions that Asian Leopards live in (Bengals are part Asian Leopard.) We settled on Makena - which means "happy one"

Makena

Our second Bengal came with the name "Lilia," which seemed to fit her sweet and gentle nature perfectly...

Lilia

We used to have a cat named Bits. She came from a litter of kittens rescued from a barn on a nearby farm (this was 35 years ago.) Their mother had died and by the time we got them they were very weak and cold. The vet gave us some formula to feed them and instructions on what to do, but he did not think they would all survive. We fed them and kept them warm, but sadly, only one survived. She was the smallest and weakest one, we never thought she had a chance, we called her the "itty bitty" kitten. When we realized she was going to survive, her name was already Itty Bitty, which over the years got shortened up to Bits. She grew to be a large healthy cat who lived 23 years.

Our cat was already named Mogli when we adopted him from the shelter. Since he knew his name, we kept it and the German spelling, since the latter was on his vet records and microchip registration. Obviously it's from The Jungle Book.

BooBoo - will be 19 this month. When he was born, he looked like a little bear cub, but he wasn't a Yogi. He was a BooBoo!

Ms. Pepe - is Boo's litter sister, and so she will be 19 this month, too. She's a split-faced tortie with 'tude. She reminded Rick of Pepe le Pew, but she's a girl, so she became Ms. Pepe. (pronounced Peppee, not PeePee, like our vet insists on calling her.
 )

Amber Louise - will be 12 in November. She was given to us by a woman in town at the age of about five weeks. She's a little amber-colored tabby. I don't how she ended up with Louise. One day, I was calling her and I just said "Amber Louise!" And that was that.

Mollipop - we got Molli at the vet hospital. We had taken Boo and Pepe down one night for a geriatric check-up. Molli was one of five baby kittens down there. They had no names. I called down and told the receptionist that I wanted to bring her home, but had to wait a month or so, til she was old enough to leave her mama. So I'd go down to the hospital 3x a week to hold her, talk to her, and have her get to know me. One night, I came home and was doing laundry. As I was taking a basket of laundry down to the washer, I was singing, "Lollipop, lollipop, oh lolly, lolly pop!" Only it came out, "Mollipop, Mollipop". I stopped dead and said, "That's it! That's her name!" Called down to the vet and said, "Her name is Mollipop!" And so it was. Molli will be five years old on February 5th. She came home with me around the end of March.

Tabitha (Tabby) - our neighbor called me one afternoon and said, "Pam, there's a tiny kitten over here and I don't know what to do about it." I went over with some food and ended up bringing her home. As I was carrying her home, she looked up at me and meowed and said, "My name is Tabby!" And I said, "Yes, I know." And that was that. (And that is the truth, I swear, That girl told me her name, right from the beginning. I brought her into the basement when Rick was working and I told him, "This is Tabby.") Tabby will be four years old in July (her official Gotcha Date with us; she was probably born sometime very late May).

Muffin - was my Mom's cat. When Mom was admitted to a nursing home, Muffin became our cat. That was almost 3 years ago now and she's been here ever since....much to Mollipop's chagrin. We aren't sure of Muffin's birthday, so she will be five years old in June, which is the closest guesstimate, based on my mother's timeframe with her. Her Gotcha Date with us is September 21st.

We know that Molli and Muffin are right around the same age and Tabby is a year younger.

Sweetie- Came to our neighbors house as a small furball.  We named him Sweetie Pie because we thought he was a girl.  He must have been young and not developed yet and with all his fur I did not realize he was a boy for a month.  We keep him as Sweetie because his is a lover boy. Sad part is everyone tells him what a pretty girl she is

Dante- He was my little runt. When he was born I had just finished the book Dante's Inferno. My daughter does say he is the devil boy.

Cimba- My daughter named him, I am assuming from the Lion King with a twist on the spelling.  He is my Lion King, gentle giant. The biggest of the all cats.

Dutchess- My daughter named her also.  I am assuming from The Aristocats with a twist on the spelling as well.  She is our princess and defiantly thinks she is royalty.  I haven't explained to her she was born a street kitten.

All of our cats have kept their shelter names. We figured they were used to them, and couldn't see any reason to change.

Monet: He didn't have a shelter name, at least that I know of. So I chose Monet after my favorite artist. I often call him Mo-Mo or Mew-net (Pronounced Mew-Nay)

Picasso/Cassie: Her shelter name was Paige. I didn't like it, and decided to follow the trend of artist names. She became Picasso on paper, though Cassie is easier to say. It seems to fit her well

Jasmine - That was her name with her previous family that hubby 'stole' her from, and she was already older by then so we just kept it, instead of stressing her out more by changing it.

Pyre - She was named after Pyre Fierceshot, Guild wars Charr ranger. Mostly because they looked similar. (He's kinda an orange tabby and so is she)

Destiny - She was named after the group 'Destiny's Edge' in Guild Wars 2, although most people think its because of how we found her. It was kind of fate.

Noriel - means "Daughter of Fire" in elvish. We were meeting with a new D&D group and I needed a name for my Sorceress Moon elf, and we just happen to find kitty at the same time.

Yes, we're geeks.

"Charli" was a 6 week old kitten, given to my husband by our daughter for his birthday...He took one look at her and said she reminded him of Charlie Chan..lol...so, "Charli"

"Maggie" is one of two feral kittens trapped on December 16th.  I looked at her, thought of my sister (who passed 12/20/2000) and knew I had to name Maggie after my sister's favorite cat, Maggie.

"Rosie" is the second of two feral kittens trapped in December.  She is smaller than her sister, Maggie, and was a round little thing (not chubby, turns out she had worms BAD), but she just looked like a Rosie, and it stuck.

My happy place.
Amber: Her foster family originally called her Flufty but we changed it because of her beautiful Amber eyes.

Sasha: She didn't have a name with her foster family, she was just called one of four kittens. My daughter named her Sasha because it was a pretty name for a pretty girl.

Monty: He was originally called Moses but we thought he was more of a Monty so we changed it.

I got Autumn Angel when she was almost a year old.  I had pictured getting a kitten and had the name Autumn picked out, then ended up getting her, and her name was Angel, so I decided on Autumn Angel.

Cobweb ( Webby) is a black outside cat. She loves being under the house and is always covered in cobwebs.
Neferetiti ( Neffie) and Cleopartra ( Cleo) already had their names. They are named after pieces of music. We kept their names because we love them.

Lilith- This was her shelter name. We liked it and it suits her.

Sophie- She was Midge at the shelter and DD wasn't having that. She and I tossed names back and forth until I suggested Sophie. She liked it then promptly changed it to Sophiesaurus and most of them time we call her Saurus.

Henry- His name at the shelter was Chico. DD and I decided on Henry because I have had a stuffed dog named Henry since I was 8. I just turned 45. So we named him after my childhood pal who is currently in my room "relaxing" with DD's stuffed teddy bear that we got her when she was 4.

Bailey (the going on 13 year old border collie)- her shelter name was Brittany. The then 9 year old DD picked Bailey after a friend of hers.

Charvone- We kept his name from the shelter, which they got from his previous family. I have no idea what it means or what the significance behind it is, but he has always responded to it. It's pronounced "Shar-vohn". We mostly call him Char-Char (with the "char" as in "charcoal"), though. His mother and father, who he was brought to the shelter with, were named "Dolly" and "Onny".

Sakura- Her original name was "Kibby", which sounds too similar to "Kitty". That would cause both of them to come running, or be confused about who I'm talking to. I wanted to give her a traditional Japanese name to make it easier on me having to write bilingual posts on Facebook (for my family members and friends in Japan), so I took my mom's suggestion of "Sakura-chan". It means "Cherry Blossom." Her nose, spots on her lips and the spots on her paw pads are bright pink like cherry blossom flowers. The flowers itself mean "Beautiful Spirit/Mind", "Purity/Innocence" (of heart), Graceful Lady," and "Candidness". She does look so sweet and innocent, until you see her smack Char-Char in the face out of the blue or deliberately knock things off of the counters for attention. Tortitude...
