Hi there, I recently took in a beautiful, loving stray. Problem is, I can't identify his gender, which is part of his identity! Lol
He probably weighs 5 pounds. He's very petite. I don't know much about cats, this is my first cat as an adult with my own family.
I gently tried to feel if there were testes in a scrotum, but I felt nothing. When do testicals descend? I tried to read about this, but I can't find sny viable results online.
Anyway, here is a picture.
I sure wish I knew more about this kitty. Love him to bits though. Going to take great care of him or her.
Any help would be so appreciated!!!! Thank you :)

The picture makes it a little hard to tell but I think it's a boy :). But he's either already neutered or is cryptorchid. At 5 pounds he would have larger testicles than that, I think. It would be best to get him in for a checkup at the vet's, and the vet can confirm gender/neuter status for you, along with vaccines, de-worming, testing, etc.

If he's already neutered, he must have belonged to someone. Have you looked for lost cat ads? Did you call the shelters in the area to see if anyone reported him missing?

Hi Willow, and thank you. :)
Yes, I have checked the glassifies daily, and the humane society's website has no new listings of cats matching his description. It's a long story, but he was outside on his own for at least 6 days. He was sleeping in my neighbors yard. She fed him, but her two cats didn't like him. Why she didn't call the humane society, I dont know. He was sleeping on her patio chair. The poor thing. We showed up to find him on our porch one day, and I had been asking my husband for a cat, and he made the joke "there's your cat." I picked him up and took him over to the neighbor, and that's when she filled me in. So, I brought him in. We got him food, and he ate over a cup in one sitting, and slept for 24 hours straight.

I looked at his genetals again, and I feel a scrotum, but no testes. I wish I knew more about him. He's lovely and gentle. Non intrusive and clean, and he even let me clip his claws

Looks like a boy to me. Got any boy names in mind? Also post some photos of his other end so we can see him
. When you take him to be neutered the vet will confirm his gender for sure.

The fur around his genitals looks pretty short, like it was shaved recently. Maybe he has been neutered in the last month or so? That would make sense, he's about the right age for that. Strange that someone would go to the trouble of having him fixed and then abandon him, maybe he is lost. Have you asked your vet to scan him for a micro chip?
