Natural or home alternative for kitty having breathing problems?

Hi!  I'm brand new here and one of my kitties was breathing in a really labored way today :s  He also pooped on the carpet! :O  He's 16 and has hyperthyroidism and kidney problems (I can't remember which causes the other).

He seems to be a little bit better now, actually.

I asked the vet on the phone and an online vet about what could be the cause and what I should do, but I'm really scared of taking him to the vet.  He is extremely sensitive and very easily startled and gets incredibly stressed out when he goes to the vet.  The time we took him before in the early spring, he was yowling and freaking out when we left him with the vet.  I was terrified for him!  He hadn't lost that much weight at that point and was healthier, so I'm scared that if we take him to the vet now that something horrible might happen :<

The vet online said that he might have a thickened or enlarged heart from the hyperthyroidism and if that caused a blood clot to go to his lungs, they could have built up fluid :s  I don't know what exactly happened to make him breathe like this but it's scary :<

His breathing seems a bit better now than it was earlier today, but I'm still really worried.

Has anyone else experienced this with their kitty with hyperthyroidism?  Is it something just goes away?

I've been giving him Pet Wellbeing Thyroid Support Gold and Kidney Support Gold drops for almost a year.  More than a year?!  He hasn't really gotten better, but I don't know how he would be without the drops :s  I've seen that some people combine the thyroid drops with that Hills Science Diet y/d food especially for hyperthyroid cats and those two TOGETHER work really well.

Is there anything I can do to help him without taking him to the vet? :s  Has anyone helped their cats naturally when they have these problems? :s

Thanks <3

A blood clot is extremely serious, even life-threatening, and is a distinct possibility. There's no home remedy - he needs a vet ASAP. Labored breathing is one sign of congestive heart failure - something you can't treat yourself.
Yes, get to the vet ASAP.  MY Beasley gone 15 years now had kidney and a heart mummer.  He made to be 9 years old but the night he died it was from congestive heart failure (wheezing, etc.). I will be thinking of you.

Thanks for the replies <3  Me and my dad took him to TWO vets today and they said his lungs are surrounded with fluid :<  Most likely it's from congestive heart failure also :<  They drained it and he's staying overnight and they're going to do more tests to find out what kind of medicine he needs to recover.

Hi!  We just brought Poupy back from the pet hospital.  After the liquid removal, he looks like he's breathing more easily but so far it looks kind of shallow :s  He had an extremely stressful couple of days u.u  It's actually not CHF at all!  They found out that he has cancer on his liver and it probably spread to his lungs because his lungs show an "abnormality".  They tested the fluid from around his lungs and it wasn't indicative of cancer, but the sonograms showed it :s  So far since he came home, he licked a little bit of gravy from his wet food and then went under the dining room table.  The dining room is carpeted, but the living room isn't, so I'm assuming he went to the nearest soft spot without having to go upstairs.  The vets recommend chemotherapy, but that would be too much constant stress for him :s  They also said that the fluid could come back, they just don't know how soon :s  I hope it doesn't come back at all! u.u  Do any of you know of alternative therapies for kitty cancer?  I want to treat his hyperthyroidism, too in as natural a way as possible.  I think the sedative is still active because he's snoozing at the moment <3

Thanks <3  I can't tell if he's just lethargic from the stress and sedatives or if he's just gotten worse in general from the stress and stuff :<  His breathing certainly looks better, but it's shallow and I'm still worried :<  He ate and drank a little and hasn't gone to the litterbox yet, but he went up the stairs to my room and jumped onto my bed!  Oh, I hope he feels better tomorrow <3

He's still sleeping or sitting most of the time (well, most kitties do that anyway :D), but he's walking around more!  The vet said to just watch his breathing.  It doesn't look labored the way it did before we brought him there, but it doesn't look completely normal either :s  I really don't want the fluid to accumulate again :<  His breathing looks kind of shallow.  It's been that way since he came back.  I'm assuming that's normal after the fluid extracting?

I don't know. Our last cat had a couple of CHF episodes, but they were treated with diuretics. It wouldn't hurt to call your vet and ask.
